For Sale: 1970 Ford Mustang in Lithia Springs, Georgia

Vehicle Description

Sometimes the best Mustang is one that you can afford and one that still looks great and drives like a true pony car. This handsome 1970 Ford Mustang coupe delivers on all fronts: it looks great, it's got plenty of power from a 302 cubic inch V8, and hey, would you look at that price! Get in and have some fun!

The Mustang coupes always get overlooked, but that's a shame, because this one is rather handsome in every way. The 1970 Mustangs were winners from any angle, and the coupes got a nice bit of aggression up front, but the semi-formal roofline suggests that maybe this is a car for grown-ups, not boy racers, and this car fits that description perfectly. No stripes, no wings, just a clean, chiseled shape. The medium blue paint certainly helps, and it was applied in 2008, so it still looks pretty good. Sure, there are some signs of use and time, but look again at the price and realize that you won't find many cleaner coupes than this for under $25 grand. You'll note they added hood pins and a chin spoiler with fog lamps to dress it up a bit, and there's a custom grille that cleans things up. In fact, all the emblems and badges were shaved, but does anyone not recognize this icon? The chrome bumpers shine up well, we love the traditional 3-element taillights, and the stance on this one is absolutely perfect.

The blue interior brings all the things you want in a Mustang: high-back buckets, a console, and a manual transmission in the middle. The seats are possibly original and showing their age, but Mustang seat covers are insanely affordable and replacing them is a job you can do at home. There's a smaller wood-rimmed steering wheel, which warms up the surroundings a bit, and that Hurst T-handle shifter is linked to a 5-speed manual transmission, which totally transforms this early Mustang. Gauges are stock save for the tachometer strapped to the steering column, which needs replacing anyway, and you'll be pleased to note that this car has factory A/C, now powered by modern hardware behind the scenes. There are a couple of extra switches hidden in the ash tray, one for the A/C and one for the fog lamps, and the original AM radio is still in the dash, although it's definitely ready to be replaced. This coupe also offers a good-sized trunk with full-sized spare tire and a correct plaid mat.

The engine is a strong-running 302 cubic inch V8 that looks far more expensive than it is. You can tell where the biggest investment was on this car thanks to the black air cleaner and valve covers, which give it a very monochromatic look under the hood. It was rebuilt by Phoenix Engine Rebuilds and includes a Holley 4-barrel carburetor on an Edelbrock intake manifold, MSD ignition system, and great attention to detail to make it look as good as it runs. A Monte Carlo bar between the shock towers really tightens up the front end and long-tube headers with an X-pipe and throaty mufflers give it a fantastic soundtrack. The T5 5-speed manual transmission shifts beautifully and with 3.90 gears out back, it's punchy on the street but cruises easily on the highway. The stance is just about perfect, especially with those 15-inch Torque Thrust wheels and staggered 205/60/15 front and 245/60/15 rear BFGoodrich radials.

Lots of car for the money, this Mustang gets attention. But perhaps more importantly, it'll make the guy behind the wheel smile every time he turns the key. Call today!
