For Sale: 1948 Chrysler Town & Country Convertible in Auburn, Indiana

Vehicle Description

To be OFFERED AT AUCTION at Auctions America’s Auburn Fall event, September 1-4, 2016.

Chassis No.
C3963277

Estimate:
$140,000 - $160,000 US

Originally conceived in 1941 by Chrysler employee Dave Wallace, the Chrysler Town & Country offered customers a deviation from the normally chrome accented vehicles, instead offering beautifully-crafted wood accenting bodywork. Although the “woodie” was born of a practical need for relatively inexpensive estate wagons, its wood-framed body was considered quite fashionable and, due to its association with country life, became a favorite vehicle of the wealthy. All told about 8,400 examples were built and each remains highly sought after by collectors to this day. This is an excellent opportunity to purchase one of the most opulent offerings in Chrysler’s 1941 lineup.

This Town & Country is presented in Dove Gray with accenting woodwork. The interior is complemented with lush burgundy leather and broadmoor cord cloth. Powering the Town & Country is a 324-cid ‘Spitfire’ straight eight-cylinder engine which is paired to Chrysler’s patented Fluid Drive automatic transmission. The car features a power convertible top, as well as dual spotlights.
