For Sale: 1963 Porsche 356B in Carson, California

Vehicle Description

This 1963 Porsche 356B Super 90 T-6 coupe was recently found residing in a garage where it had sat for the last twenty-five years. Of the 7,930 356B's produced by Porsche that year, 6,263 were coupes, of which 4,092 were built by Reutter and 2,171 were built by Karmann Karosserie. This '63 356B is a Reutter-bodied coupe and European-market vehicle that was originally sold in Germany. Ownership documents dating back to the early 1970's indicate that it was imported to the United States some time in 1972 and show that after arriving in the U.S. this 356B went through three owners, with the last owner purchasing the car in 1987. Additionally, the original export documentation from 1972 indicates that this 356 is a Super 90, and a recent COA from Porsche has confirmed this. Originally finished in 6206 Silver Metallic according to the original body tag and COA, it was repainted at least twice, first in green and then later in black, while the red interior is mostly original, with the front seats having been recovered at one point. The interior is remarkably intact for its age, and the door panels, rear seats, kick panels, and headliner appear to be original, as are all the original Euro gauges, locking shifter, and the original VDM steering wheel. Additionally, it has an original accessory Leitz decklid rack. The engine serial number indicates that it is not original and corresponds to a 1957 build date, making it a 356A engine, which is corroborated by the ownership documentation provided with the car. However, the transmission is original to the car and the engine is complete and has the correct 356 parts on it with the exception of the distributor which is an incorrect Bosch replacement. Additionally, the 356 still retains all its 6V electrics, although the original voltage regulator has been changed to a Bosch Brazilian unit, and although the engine is intact it is in non-running condition. The 356 currently sits on a set of chrome reproduction stock wheels with chrome hubcaps, but comes with a set of five original period-correct 356 Lemmerz wheels with Porsche nipple hubcaps and the original 356 brakes are still present. This Porsche has the usual rust found on a 356, and most of the repair needed is in the rockers, doors, jack points, and front apron, although there is some rust in the floor as well. All the glass is the original German Sigla and Sekurit glass, although the original windshield is cracked. While this 1963 356B needs total restoration, as a rare and early model Porsche, and a Super 90 at that, it is a very good candidate for such as values of these early cars continue to appreciate.
