Vehicle Description
Custom bodied automobiles by the Derham Company of Pennsylvania were admired and well respected for more than 50 years by the time this particular Cadillac was built. This 1954 Series 62 Convertible was delivered to the Chaplin Motor Company for Mr. Pearley A. Swasey of Portland, Maine, just after his 80th birthday on June 18,1954. Mr. Swasey, the heir of the family fortune acquired through pottery and bottle production in Portland, could not have just any off-the-rack Cadillac. Custom styled by the Derham Co., this Cadillac features special optioned mirrors, upholstery, seats, and Kelsey-Hayes polished wheels with a stylish Continental Kit. After delivery, Mr. Swasey’s car was upgraded with dealer installed, factory optioned twin four-barrel Carter carburetors. A unique feature is the batwing shaped air cleaner. To date, there are only 47,234 documented miles on this Cadillac. According to the consignor, this is the only Derham Co. custom 1954 series 62 Cadillac with the factory dealer carburetor option in existence today.
Last year, this vehicle was featured in Hemmings Motor News Find of the Day in October 2015.
