Vehicle Description
XK140 Drophead Coupe, one of 480 in RHD and one of only 15
delivered in British Racing Green with Suede Green interior and
Gunmetal hood. It is a particularly important example in view of
its almost un-paralleled originality and time warp condition.
Constructed in November 1955, it was dispatched on January 18th
1956 to its first owner; the proprietor of Graphic Designs, a
Wolverhampton-based design company. For the next 52 years it
remained in the same family ownership and covered only a little
over 30,000 miles during that time before being acquired by JD
Classics in 2008.
Carefully maintained throughout its life, it is one of very few
survivors that remain in remarkably good unrestored condition
retaining full matching numbers, original paintwork, carpets, trim,
hood and tools, including the rare wheel brace that was only fitted
to cars with disc wheels. The remarkable degree of preservation of
this example is confirmed by the fact that it is featured in two
highly significant books; "Jaguar XK140/150 in Detail", written by
Jaguar Daimler Heritage's chief archivist Anders Clausager and the
"Original Jaguar XK", written by the founder of the XK club and
notable author Philip Porter.
Today the car provides a fantastic opportunity to acquire an XK140
that is not only one of very few original, and increasingly
desirable, survivors but is a highly useable example of what many
feel to be the best all round car in the XK range combining the
good looks derived from the 120 with the thrill of open-top
motoring while enjoying the benefits of increased leg room, wind up
windows, a proper hood and rack-and-pinion steering. Prior to the
