A new generation of the El Camino, along with the Chevelle, was introduced to the public for the 1968 model year– and it was a hit right away. The wheelbase shrank from 119 to 116 inches and the sheet metal was completely new once again.The biggest news for the El Camino was the introduction of the coveted 375 hp, 415 lbs-ft L78 396 big-block– the highest horsepower engine ever available in an El Camino at that time.

For sale by owner is this beautiful El Camino SS. There is not a lot to say about this one, it is a very nice restored genuine SS 396. The pictures really don't do this car justice (it was a bright sunny day) it looks much better in person. Restored about 13 years ago with some cosmetic and mechanical improvement last year, this car looks and runs great. The original engine is long gone and has been replaced with a period correct big block with a Turbo Hydramatic automatic transmission. The car was repainted the original Butternut Yellow with new exterior chrome and trim at the same time. The interior has been completely redone with period correct details and the under carriage is exceptionally solid, clean & dry. What follows are the details.
