For Sale: 1962 Chevrolet Corvette in Halton Hills, Ontario

Vehicle Description

1962 Corvette 327/360HP For Sale - Frame Off Restored, Triple Crown Winner  LMC proudly presents this 1962 Corvette Roadster for sale. Chevrolet Corvette (C1) is the first generation of the now classic Corvette sports car introduced late in the 1953 model year and produced through 1962. It is commonly referred to as the "solid-axle" generation, as the independent rear suspension did not appear until the 1963 Stingray. In 1961, the rear of the car was completely redesigned with the addition of a "duck tail" with the now iconic four round lights. This tail light treatment would continue for all following model years of Corvettes. The most noticeable exterior changes for 1962 were the removal of the side cover chrome trim. Without the trim bright work, it was not possible to offer the coves in a contrasting color so for the first time since 1955 Corvettes were offered in solid colors only. A blacked-out grille and ribbed chrome rocker panel molding were new. The standard features now included an electric clock, dual exhaust, tachometer, heater and defroster, seat belts, outside rearview mirror and windshield washer. This was also the last year for features like the wrap around windshield, convertible-only body style, trunk lid and exposed headlamps that did not reappear for many decades. The most significant new feature was the Small-Block was enlarged to 327 cu in which in standard form produced 250 bhp. However for an extra $484.20 over list price, the option Code 582 Fuel-Injected 327 version produced 360 bhp making it the fastest of the C1 generation. This high performance engine was only ordered on 1918 Vettes so made these cars very rare and collectible. '62 Chevrolet advertisements declared statements like 'Finest, Fiercest Yet'. This confirmed what many Corvette enthusiasts believed that one of the best parts of the C1 Corvette is its ability to display a wide range of personalities without ever straying from its performance roots. From refined to sinister, a change of color is all it takes to show these cars in a new light. This 1962 Corvette definitely displays the mean and nasty side of sinister thanks to the bold Tuxedo Black exterior and flashy Red interior with some serious firepower underneath that fiberglass. This Vette was an early October '61 production from GM's St. Louis line. It is the beneficiary of a no expense spared body-off restoration by marque specialist and presents with great authenticity and feels every bit as good as it looks on the road. It has achieved NCRS Awards including 2x Top Flight, Duntov Mark of Excellence and also a Bloomington Gold Award Winner. The bold front presents a black grille insert sitting above chrome bumperettes while quad headlights cap the fenders. Corvette script spans the space between those headlights with everyone wanting to move past the view to open the hood and inspect the beauty of the Fuel Injected 327. The engine compartment is very well detailed, extremely neat and clean. If you wanted the top option Corvette, the new-for-'62 L84 327ci 360hp engine was the way to go. Of course, the main attraction of the engine bay is the Rochester mechanical fuel injection setup. This car is powered by a numbers matching restoration engine. The finned valve covers wear their age well and, at the back, the chrome ignition shielding adds some factory flash to the engine compartment. Power to the asphalt is delivered through the 4-speed manual transmission and the Posi-traction optional 4:11 rear end. Turn the key and the small block comes to life as your anticipation spikes and this little black beauty is ready for the back roads. As you can imagine, the fuel-injected small block is just as fun now as it must have been in 1962. This Corvette is a wonderful example of the end of the C1 model run. The exterior paintwork is beautiful as the Tuxedo Black definitely will capture the eye of any passerby. The impressive look of the gloss black is heightened by Chevrolet's decision to go to the single colour for the model year after years of those classic contrasting coves. All the panel fit and alignment is true to factory standards and provides an overall great first impression to any admirer. The crystal clear windshield, wrapped in beautiful stainless and kept clean by stainless wipers. Swing over to the side to admire those unmistakable and classic coves of the early Corvettes. On either side the Black Steel Wheels with the Chevy cross-flags in the center of the small chrome caps are mounted on black wall tires to complete the overall mean black look of this Corvette. A driver side chrome mirror, dash-mounted rear-view mirror, chrome door handles, and ribbed rocker molding complete the view. Out back, the "ducktail" continues the overall sense of motion, capped by dual round tail lights and a second set of chrome bumperettes. This is a two-top car so, behind the seats, you'll find a black convertible top which can be hidden and replaced by a body-matched hardtop whenever you feel so inclined. The Hardtop was a very rare option chosen by few that cost $236.75 to order. Both the hardtop and soft top are in like new condition. Slip under this Black beast to observe a solid undercarriage restored to the same standards as the exterior. The Corvette advertisements in '62 suggested 'Don't sit down unless you mean business!' and 'Get in, Sit Down, Disappear! down the road. Take this advice seriously and follow your emotions by jumping over the wide stainless door sill plates into the bright Red low slung bucket seat. The bucket seats are divided by the transmission tunnel that has the four-speed handle and quickly prepare for driving excitement. The driver can grab onto the Red steering wheel in the unique position that these C1 Corvettes provide. Surrounding the driver are the clear clean instruments that keeps tabs on fuel, temperature, speed, battery, and oil pressure within the beautiful condition Red dash that reflects the quality of the award winning restoration. All the chrome pulls and switches show and feel extremely well. The Signal Seeking factory Wonder Bar Radio and the rare interior option of the Code 426 Power Windows make for some nice driving conveniences. Power Windows was a very rare option on only 995 cars at $59.20 within the total cost of this Corvette back in the day of $5217.75. Overall this interior benefits from a fantastic restoration with all the fine attention to detail, ensuring a very pleasing result of what a Corvette cockpit should be. This C1 comes with a great deal of documentation to further support how great of a car it is, including: certificates of titles, copy of original dealer invoice,, NCRS judging sheets, Bloomington judging sheets, california yellow plates, copies of NCRS and bloomington awards certificates (NCRS award is signed by Duntov), copies of period magazine articles, also comes with car cover. This Award Winning '62 roadster would definitely make a wonderful addition to anyones collection! Corvette boasted in their advertisements that 'Fuel Injection V8 and a four-speed box isn't a drive at all, it's an emotional experience!' True and this Tuxedo Black Corvette Hardtop/Roadster with the 327/360HP will ensure driver and passenger excitement travelling down any style of road.
