Featuring an all-steel body, this outstanding ’37 Ford Opera Coupe has been totally customized and updated into a show-quality ride with modern drivability, performance, and reliability. Power is provided by a balanced, blueprinted, and fuel-injected LT-1 350 by Street & Performance, complete with LT-1 aluminum intake, chrome air cleaner, polished aluminum LT-1 valve covers, polished breathers, and a custom oil pan. A Lokar-shifted GM 700R4 overdrive automatic transmission, complete with trans cooler, delivers the power through a custom driveshaft to a stout Ford 9-inch rear end. Coated HPC headers send the LT-1’s spent gases to a great-sounding custom Flowmaster exhaust system with chrome megaphone tips. Support systems include cooling by a polished aluminum radiator, electric fan, and aluminum water pump, fuel delivery via polished fuel lines, an electric fuel pump and custom gas tank with in-trunk filler. Other top-quality items include twin serpentine-belt accessory drive setup, polished GM alternator, hi-torque mini starter, extensive braided stainless steel lines with polished fittings, Street & Performance brackets, custom wiring, and polished stainless-steel bolts and fasteners.
The coupe rides on a TCI frame mounting a Mustang II independent front suspension system including rack and pinion steering gear with custom linkage, tubular A-arms, and front disc brakes, while custom leaf springs bring up the rear. Body mods include a Bitchen firewall under the stock hood which includes painted hinges and a chrome prop rod. The power-brake booster is concealed for a clean look. The all-steel body was smoothed and filled, as were the fiberglass running boards. The hinges were hidden, the doors were shaved and fitted with solenoid release mechanisms, and both the windshield and rear window were V-butted. Painted “Swan neck” mirrors, and a custom-painted grille, headlight surrounds, bumpers and brackets, frenched ‘Blue Dot’ taillights, and a solenoid-operated license-plate frame round out the coupe’s beautiful exterior, which is finished in show-quality DuPont Chrome Emulsion Black Blausberry paint.
The interior received similar treatment, with complete custom black leather upholstery, a custom Grey Tweed headliner, and black wool carpeting. Other interior highlights include a courtesy light, Lokar pedals and parking brake, brushed aluminum rear-view mirror, a custom black leather-wrapped dash, billet instrument cluster, Dakota Digital gauges, Ididit tilt steering column, LeCarra steering wheel, billet knobs and controls, power windows, and air conditioning. Additional entertainment is provided by a Clarion CD stereo unit and concealed speakers. Electric wipers, power windows, custom-tinted glass, and a fully upholstered, trimmed and detailed trunk, complete with relocated Optima battery, stereo amplifier, and a polished strut for the lid complete this stunning ride, which rolls on a set of Budnik wheels surrounded by Toyo tires.
