Being offered for sale is a 74 Volkswagen Beetle in fantastic restored to original condition. For all of its life, it was family owned and titled only twice. It was sold new in Johnson City TN and passed down to the original owner’s daughter when he passed away. She in turn had it repainted in its original color and had needed mechanical work performed to make it reliable and drive like the day it came off the showroom floor. Making this car nearly one of a kind, is the dealer installed Air Conditioning (yes, it is on the bill of sale)….and it is in working condition, blows cold. I have never seen another.
This car also came optioned with dealer installed undercoating when new and has protected the car in its pristine condition. It is all original and rust free from top to bottom. Being a TN car doesn’t hurt. Look at the doors, the sills, around the inside of the trunk….no rust, only the original paint in those areas in excellent condition. It retains all its original sheet metal. It was never been wrecked. All the body panels and gaps are factory original. It still has its owner’s manual.
I took this car in on a trade and have driven it and am impressed with how nice it really is and how well it drives and……it’s fun too. It gets more conversation at the local cars shows that my muscle cars do. It wins trophies too! Look carefully at the pics and description of this amazing Beetle. Details
Paint condition on this car is better than new. The base coat/clear coat is very bright and shiny with no chips or runs. All the glass has been replaced with new authentic VW glass. Same for the rubber window moldings, they are new. The tires are also brand new; I just put them on, taking off a set of older bias belted tires that had some cracking….. a hint that the car has been driven sparingly. Bumpers, mirror and other trim are all very nice.
Mechanically this car is also in terrific condition. All the maintenance records over the years come with the car. The engine was completely rebuilt and runs like new (receipt on that). I just had A/C system recently serviced and modernized with R134; it blows cold. Any needed maintenance that was required over the years was done as the documents all show, including newer brakes and exhaust. All the systems work on the car as they should; A/C, lights, horn, wipers, turn signals, gauges, etc. The 4 speed transmission and clutch are smooth.
The engine bay is clean and in factory stock condition. No messing around with aftermarket bolt-ones. The trunk is also neat and tidy with the spare tire. The original jack is under the rear seat as is a new battery. Underneath is very clean and tidy with its original undercoating still in tact and still doing its job of protecting this ageless beauty. Look it over, no rust anywhere here either.
The interior is awesome, it presents very nicely. The headliner appears to be the original and nice. The seat vinyl, door panels and seat belts are like new. New carpeting was installed with a new pad and sound deadening underneath. Door windows roll up and down with no effort. The original dealer optioned radio has been replaced with a working aftermarket stereo unit.
I am generally a muscle car guy, but I was and remain smitened by this Beetle. It is the 1st one I have owed and I love it. This is a no excuse VW. The owner’s history and documented dealer installed air conditioning makes it very collectible. I encourage you to look at this vehicle in person and test drive it. For the price, this car could be used as a reliable daily driver or on the weekends and taken to the local car shows.
