1965 marked several “firsts” for the U.S. – President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in for his first term, Sonny & Cher released what would become their first number-one single and Chevrolet was now offering the Corvette with a big-block engine option. Gone were the fuel-injection options, with Chevrolet adopting a “no replacement for displacement” attitude and offering a 396ci big block pushing 425hp. In order to make the new engines fit, the 1965 models received a funnel-shaped air scoop spanning the length of the hood that later became known as the “power blister,” a precursor to the popular “stinger-style” hoods of 1967. Also available for the first time were the iconic side exhaust pipes and heavy-duty “Rock Crusher” M-22 transmission.
This particular 1965 Corvette features its original 396/425hp engine and 4-speed transmission with just over 83,400 original miles on the odometer. When it underwent a complete restoration in 2009, it was refinished in its original combination of Nassau Blue with blue interior and a new white soft-top. Completing the muscular look of the car is a set of factory side pipes, which the car originally had when it rolled out from the factory. Combine all this with the Kelsey knockoff wheels wrapped in Goldline tires, and you have a truly striking car.
