For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a 1966 Chevrolet Malibu 396. The Malibu is dressed up like a Chevelle SS but started life out as a Malibu. The Malibu was restored about ten years ago and painted in a traditional red over a black vinyl interior with bucket seats. Powering this Malibu is a stout 396 big block that makes all of the right noises and will get up and go! Backing up the 396 is a 4-speed manual transmission and a 10 bolt rear end. Helping the 396 come to life is an electronic ignition and letting the engine exhale is a new set of 3 inch exhaust. Helping to put the power down to the ground are eight inch wide rally wheels wrapped in wide radial rubber and rear air shocks. 1966 would be the first year for the Chevelle SS that replaced the Malibu SS and came from the factory with a 396. The 396 was first introduce in 1965 and was known as a torque monster. The top engine for the Malibu in 1966 was a 350 horsepower 327 that was certainly no slouch, but no match for the 396.
