1946 Ford Custom Coupe
We have sold a lot of late 40s Fords over the years but none quite like this one. When you think of cool custom you don't immediately picture this body style but this cool 46 Ford is sure to change your mind. With the war going on, Ford stopped producing cars in 1942. This lasted until 1946 when this classic was unveiled. While the general body shape is similar there were a few redesigns in this year like the new horizontal grill. The public was hungry for new cars and the Ford Deluxe's were what met that desire. This car takes the 46 and with a few custom features really improves on the look. The lower profile is accomplished by slightly lowering the car and chopping it 6 1/4 inches. These cars typically sit pretty tall and this gives the car a much more sleek appearance. The body is in great shape and nicely painted in a GM pale Yellow color. The original headlights are found up front but custom 1949 Lincoln taillights were inset into the rear. The deck was shaved and custom skirts also added. The bright work on the car is in great condition with all new stainless and rechromed bumpers. Other cool exterior features include the spotlights added to both sides and the working cowl vent. Wide white wall tires wrap the steel wheels which are fitted with baby moon hubcaps to complete the look.
The always reliable 350/350 combo now powers the car and runs extremely well. You may be surprised to read it but the car is a great highway driver. It is very smooth and rolls down the road just as nicely as it looks. A 10 bolt rear end is in place with 3:00 gears. A new radiator was just added to eliminate any cooling issues. The suspension was also redone with a Mustang II front end with disc brakes.
The interior of the car is done in a two tone combo of Beige and Green and the upholstery work is in good shape. A tilt steering column was added to the car and is painted Grey to match the dash. A lot of the original style trim is mounted in place on the dash as well as the original clock. Some of the knobs/switches have been replaced and Equus white face gauges added. The underdash AC unit blows cold and works well with no problems. The trunk of the car is nicely upholstered like the rest of the interior and houses a spare and the battery.
This is a very cool custom that always gets a ton of attention. It has some unique features and really stands out next to others of the same year.
