Toyota continually made minor improvements from year to year in the 60 series and there are too many
minor improvements and differences between FJ60s and FJ62s to list. Therefore, it is most helpful to focus on the
major differences between the two.
Toyota started selling the FJ62 in the U.S. in 1988 with the 3FE model engine. The 3FE gets slightly better
MPGs than the 2F from the FJ60 because it is lighter and has electronic fuel injection (EFI). The 3FE also has
slightly more horsepower and torque compared to the 2F, although the torque peaks at higher RPMs.
The FJ62 came with a 4-speed automatic transmission as opposed to the 4-speed manual offered in the FJ60.
Appearance-wise, the interior was redesigned in the FJ62 and Toyota opted for four rectangular headlights
instead of two round headlights.
Unless you are obsessed with details, these are really the main decision points in the FJ60 vs FJ62 debate: manual
vs automatic transmission, EFI vs carburetor, and round vs square headlights. Of course, you always modify either
one to your liking.
