For Sale: 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Vehicle Description

All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance. There is so much to tell about this car that one ad cannot possibly do it justice. But I will try. This is a completely redone 1971 Monte Carlo that has been extensively modified into the Pro Street masterpiece you see today. Everything, and I mean everything, on this car has been touched, modified, improved, or otherwise updated. It will definitely stand out in a crowd. This Monte has been in the same family for almost 40 years. It was completed in 2011 and has accumulated only 400 miles since. Some high level information is presented below, but I also have a complete build sheet with all the details if interested. There is also a poignant story behind this car that I will share with serious buyers. Let's start with the chassis. Two goals were to retain 75% of the original frame and to avoid a roll cage. With that, the factory frame was extensively modified. It received additional frame rails, an engineered triangular support, and was fully boxed. The rear frame rails are custom pieces from Alston Chassis. Adjustable tubular crossmembers were fabricated for flexible transmission options. The front suspension uses Fat Man Fabrication upper and lower control arms with QA1 coilover assemblies. The rear uses a swivel link parallel 4-bar setup with a drag link crossmember and QA1 coilovers. Everything was media blasted and received black base coat / clear coat paint. Moving along, the car has 4-wheel disc brakes with parts from GM and Wilwood, along with an electric hydroboost setup from ABS Power Brake. There are -4 AN braided steel lines all around as well as a line lock. There is also a functional parking brake operated with an electric actuator. The front spindles are GM parts, and the power steering uses an original style GM setup. Wheels and tires are ET Gasser spoke style with Goodyears in front and Weld 15 x 15 wheels and Mickey Thompson 21.5 x 33 tires in back. Then there is the body, which was stripped down to a shell and media blasted. It was sectioned 4" (which gives a wicked stance) and then received new floors and a new trans tunnel. The firewall was set back 2" and smoothed. The trunk floor and rear tubs were custom fabricated. On the exterior, all badges, side markers, drip rails, door handles, mirrors, and key holes were removed or welded shut, and then smoothed. Many other items were added or customized; hood scoop, rear wing, inner fenders, powder coating, etc. The car then received a beautiful black paint job. Everything is smooth and straight without any ripples of bumps. Also note the faux carbon fiber treatment used extensively throughout the car; this represents a large amount of work by itself. There are also late model Monte Carlo SS fender badges. Now for the driveline. The engine is a 468 cubic inch Chevy built from a 1973 GM 4-bolt block. The block was stress relieved and honed with torque plates. The rotating assembly was fully balanced and uses a forged steel crankshaft, forged H-beam connecting rods, and forged pistons. There is a Crane hydraulic camshaft with Manley pushrods, Harland Sharp roller rockers, and a Pete Jackson gear drive. The top end uses Canfield aluminum cylinder heads and a Professional Products aluminum intake topped with a BIGS carburetor. Other items include a Meziere electric water pump and an M&R Racing power steering pump and pulley kit. The 3" exhaust uses Hedman headers, Flowmaster mufflers, and NASCAR style tubes. This setup sounds wicked and produces loads of power but still runs good on pump gas. The transmission is a manual valve body Powerglide with a TCI Breakaway converter (2,400-2,600 flash stall) that is just fine on the street. There is also a TCI Outlaw shifter with Dakota Digital gear indicator. An aluminum driveshaft feeds a GM 12-bolt setup with Ford 9" axle tubes and bearing pockets. Inside is a Moroso Brute positraction assembly with 4.10 gears, along with Ford axles that were shortened and resplined by Moser Engineering. Finally there is the custom interior. The shortened Corvette seats and custom center console are covered in leather. The floor is a sharkskin style rug with triple black tweed on the scalloped door panels and headliner. The dash has been smoothed and contains a full set of digital instrumentation. The tilt steering column is from a 2004 Monte Carlo. The doors have a remote operator and the trunk has a pushbutton actuator. There are also hidden release cables in case of a dead battery. The car also has two-speed wipers and a siren horn. And definitely not to be overlooked is the massive sound system with Orion amplifiers and drivers on a custom fiberglass enclosure. Of course there is more; LED lights, aluminum valve covers, sound and heat insulation, undercoating, fuel cell, etc. But hopefully you get the idea. This was a complete build that could not be duplicated for less than $100k. And I don't think you'll see anything like it at your next car show.
