Introduced in 1961, the E-Type roadster proved to be an immediate success. Designed under the guidance of Sir William Lyons, the car was a longer and lower version of Jaguar's D-Type. Manufactured between 1961 and 1975, its combination of good looks, high performance, and competitive pricing established the marquee as an icon of 1960s motoring. Early Series I E-Types are among the most admired models Jaguar ever produced, and this complete numbers matching example is no exception. Built August 27, 1962, 877993 was dispatched on the 14th of October, selling new to Dr. R. O. Hummer, as verified by the Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate, wearing Black paint over Maroon hides and Black top. This particular Roadster came to us from California ownership near the Nevada border, where it was retained in long term ownership. It was recently discovered with its long term caring owners and has recently received a new interior and a thorough mechanical tune-up to ensure it longevity as a celebrated driver. Work included cleaning the carburetors, flushing and changing fluids and installing a new battery. Additionally factory correct maroon leather and vinyl upholstery in the cabin were installed, along with a new soft top, grey wool hardtop headliner, new plexi window and rubbers for the hardtop, as well as new period Coker redline tires. Its brightwork and paint have aged and show flaws, but remain ideally suited for what these lean sports cars are meant for, driving!
