1981 was a special year for Corvettes... Production moved half way through the model from St Louis, MO to the recently built Bowling Green, KY plant, where new innovations were applied: enamel paint under clear coat, weight saving upgrades and other refinements making it a desirable Stingray, the last one with 4-speed manual transmission and with carbureted engines.
The example we are presenting you today is a rare Dark Bronze, only 432 being produced for the model year. It also features the Camel leather interior, a great color combo. This Vette shows 39391 miles which, according to the Carfax and the usual tell-tale signs may be the original miles, but there is not sufficient documentation to support.
Present owners got it from a collection where it sat since 2002 and lots of upgrades were done in the last twelve months:

- professional detail car interior including two shampoos of all carpeted surfaces.
A complete full mechanical inspection was performed revealing an excellent mechanical condition. When valve cover gaskets were replaced, the heads were very clean and the mechanical wear on engine indicated a low mileage car.
Paint is original and still in very good condition. Front bumper and hood appear to be been repainted, but the color shows a little bit different.
Working items are as following: all gauges, radio (brand new Vette replacement), headlights (go up and down), wipers, passenger power window, power driver's seat all directions, heat, fan, power mirrors, T-tops. Unsure on cruise control and rear defrost; haven't used them. Attention needed: Driver's power window, AC, wiper fluid, power antennae, switching vents to cabin and defrost, a couple of the speakers seem disconnected.
All in all, this is a great value due to its condition, rarity and milestone status. Late Stingrays are starting to appreciate and special models with low miles are surely going to be desirable.
