As the spiritual successor to the vaunted Daytona, the 575M Maranello signaled the true return of a 2-seat Ferrari grand tourer that featured a front-mount V12 engine. For starters, the 575 received a host of mechanical upgrades, including bigger brakes and more horsepower. Inside, supple tan leather is at home at the track or on the street. And, whether planned or the byproduct of rapidly changing technology, the car also serves as a victory lap for the last of the manual-shift Ferraris. That final point is very important, as it substantially boosts the value and desirability of the model. In fact, 575Ms have recently crossed the auction block for just under $500K http://rmsothebys.com/am16/amelia-island/lots/2002-ferrari-575m-maranello/1079057 Sporting just 22,301 kilometers (13,857 miles), and fully serviced in October of 2015 by Ferrari Maserati of Atlanta, this quintessential 575 is a no-compromises icon that backs astounding performance with impressive luxury. And if you're a discerning collector who desires a 100% pure driving experience, it presents a fine opportunity to acquire one of the last row-it-yourself super cars.

BODYWORK/TRIM

When you pay a quarter-million dollars for a new car, you definitely get something special. And since the car in question has been driven less than 14K miles by just one owner, its aesthetics are still spectacular. One look at its fit and finish reveals lust worthy Pininfarina bodywork that exhibits virtually no signs of use. The Rosso Corsa paint - that's how Ferrari spells "bright red", is archetypal Ferrari bold, featuring a hand-rubbed surface that's so smooth water probably has a hard time sticking to it. And glass, rubber and trim is similarly excellent, with a virtually unmarked chin spoiler serving as an exclamation point to the car's excellent care.

ENGINE

Essentially an updated 550, the 575M saw a big performance increase thanks to bigger displacement. Growing from 5,474 cc to 5,748 cc, and from 485 horsepower to 508 horsepower, the Tipo F133E's speed is simply astounding. And while a 500 horsepower road car is one thing, a mill that bellows and shrieks like only a V12 can is almost life-changing. Many a young man has heard the siren song of a Ferrari V12 and spent the rest of his life in pursuit of such a machine. And if you're that man and this is that machine, you'll be happy to know that this Maranello backs exemplary maintenance with full service records. Most recently, the car visited Ferrari Maserati of Atlanta for a full service that included news hoses, new fluids, new filters, a fresh cam/drive belt and a detailed inspection that went so far as to recondition some common 'sticky interior' components. Naturally, the big engine presents as-new, with gorgeous aluminum castings trimmed in bright red paint. And, although never raced or abused, this Ferrari has been appropriately exercised throughout its existence.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Bottom-side, this 575M is equally spotless and beautifully turned out, as Ferrari engineers know that artistry matters when crafting such an exclusive machine. As previously mentioned, the car sticks with a standard 6-speed manual transmission instead of adopting the common paddle shifters found on so many of these classics. An active suspension serves up a comfortable ride under most conditions, but is also capable of firming up to fully exploit the car's performance. The exhaust system has been tuned as carefully as a violin to deliver just the right note. Massive brakes at all four corners would give many race cars a run for their money. And everything rolls on simple 5-spoke alloys, which wear two 255/40ZR18 and two 295/35ZR18 Michelin Pilot radials.

INTERIOR

This coupe's Tan leather interior was clearly designed to evoke the patterned upholstery in the Daytona, but with a 21st century spin. Every surface in the car is covered with an expensive layer of natural material, and the hides are so buttery smooth you just can't resist running your hands over them. There are almost no signs of wear, again testament to the careful maintenance and use this car has received, and for the most part every surface is as-new. The buckets are power adjustable and infinitely comfortable, without being confining or tight, just right for a cross-country trip. All gauges are focused around a large centrally-mounted tachometer. The steering wheel has obviously been designed by guys who have done this before. Everything works as it should, including remarkably effective air conditioning. And the stereo sounds awfully good, although, in reality, nothing can compare with the soundtrack generated by Ferrari's awesome V12.

A no-compromises supercar? Absolutely! A car that can knock on the door of 200 MPH, yet still trundle around town with a ride no more firm than a Mercedes SL roadster? You bet! Brand new, this Ferrari stickered for over a quarter-million dollars. Just over 10 years later, thanks to nostalgia and ever-changing technology, comparable examples are now crossing premier auction blocks for roughly twice that. Looking to grab a low-mileage, 1-owner 575M Maranello with a coveted manual transmission? Here's your chance!
