This 1968 AMC AMX is for sale in our Louisville KY showroom. The AMX was introduced in 1968 to huge acclaim. Its small stature compared to the other cars of the day gave it quite an advantage in the weight department. With the rear seats being deleted it would place the AMX up against the now almighty Corvette. This AMX was found in a warehouse which was the same place it set for over 20 years before being rescued and brought back to its former glory. The body was taken down to bare metal with no signs of major rust or rot this was a nice car from day one. The red stripes going down this model specific hood break up the white paint nicely and look great. The side pipes are a great touch and though they are period correct no AMX left the factory with them but you could get them installed prior to taking possession from the dealership. The interior on this AMX is in just as good shape with the red being one of the most sought after interiors of the bunch. The plate in the middle signifies this is number 6715 out of only 6725 built. This car just went from being super cool to super cool and collectible. Ofcourse the AMX was never really about the sleek interior or short exterior stature, it was all about the optional 390 Big Block. The 390 was what you got in the AMX when you wanted to not only crush the competition at the red light but carve up a back country road afterwards. This 390 is the original one that came in the car. After being disassembled for a closer look it is believed that the 30k miles shown on the odometer are original. The compression, cylinder walls as well as the heads all checked out so unless the guy rebuilt the motor before storing it for 20 years the mileage is actual. Reassembled and placed back under the hood the car was ready to be unleashed onto the world. The original Borg & Warner 4 speed keeps everything moving and is an absolute blast to drive.
