Vehicle Description
The Cobra as we know it today was born in January 1962 as a result of the union between AC Cars, a British company, and Ford, who supplied their new 260 HiPo engine. Carroll Shelby, the famous race car driver and designer, facilitated this venture, and so the car came to be known as the Shelby Cobra. Since the engines were placed in AC cars, they are also known as AC Cobras, which specifically refers to the earliest cars.
The Mk II Shelby Cobra was upgraded with Ford's 289 motor, and the Mk III was upgraded with the 427. This replica by Autocraft, built in 1998, reproduces the styling of the Mk II Cobra, including such details as the hood scoop, shape of the doors, and rear dual exhaust exit.
Slide into the driver's seat and peer over the smooth bulges of the hood and fenders. Start the car-you feel the rumble as much as you hear it. Put the car in gear, tromp the pedal, and put some heat on those tires. Settle back into the seat as the wind tussles your hair. Just try to wipe away that silly grin.
This car does not have a radio-it would only detract from the driving experience. If you're looking for a pure driving machine, this is the car you're after.
