1973 Mercury Cougar XR7
With the onset of 1971 the Cougar was redesigned to have a much
more solid look and really fit in well for the decade. This body
style was the 2nd generation of the cars and lasted until 1973. The
1973 XR7 convertible like you see here was the most popular Cougar
drop top produced and only 3,165 were built. A big change for 1973
was these cars now had a larger federally mandated impact absorbing
front bumper up front which you will see shining nicely on this
classic. Coated in White this Cougar is in good shape and has good
shine. Pinstripes run along each side of the car from the front
corner all the way back. The tan cloth top is in good condition and
raises/lowers well. The prominent front central grill sits nicely
in place with the now exposed headlights to each side. Under all
four corners are original style wheels with wire hubcaps that are
wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires.
Under the hood of this classic is a 351 V8 motor that runs well. It
is paired with an automatic transmission that shifts smoothly and
sends power back to the rear wheels. The drivetrain in the car is
all stock and receives regular maintenance with repairs done when
warranted. The car is all optioned out with power brakes, power
steering, power windows, and of course the power top.
The interior is done in a White and Green combination. The front
bucket seats, rear bench and door panels are all white with the
dash and center console Green. The center console provides
additional storage and houses the T handle shifter. All of the
original gauges are in place and inset into the dash surrounded by
woodgrain trim. The original push button radio and AC/Heat controls
are also in place and work properly.
