A GREAT 1971 Volkswagen Type 2 Transporter
The Type 2 Transporters are great classic vehicles but this one is clearly a step above the norm for these collectible vehicles. Our ’71 model stands out for a number of reasons:
• Finished in stunning Beige and White;
• Near-perfect dark beige interior;
• Meticulously restored;
• Rare metal sunroof with crank;
• Paint, Chrome and Interior all exceedingly nice; and
• Drives like a dream.
Paint and Chrome
The beige/white paint is in excellent condition with straight and well-aligned body panels.
The chrome and stainless are all in very nice condition.
The body and underside of the car appear to be free of corrosion other than normal surface rust, and the engine compartment is fully detailed.
Interior
The dark beige vinyl seat upholstery is in excellent condition as is the rest of the interior including the dash pad. The headliner is in good condition other than around the sunroof.
Engine/Transaxle
The replacement engine and transaxle are in good condition, and the entire engine and engine compartment are fully detailed. The engine starts right up and the vehicle is a pleasure to drive.
Tires, Brakes, Safety and Monitoring Systems
The car is equipped with Cooper 195/75R14 tires that look almost new.
The brakes work well, bringing the Type 2 to a straight and quick stop.
All of the engine/systems monitoring gauges appear to work properly. Similarly, the lights, speedometer, horn, wipers and turn signals all work, as does the clock. Like most VWs, the heater is marginal.
The Transporter Van Everyone Wants
If you have ever owned a Type 2, sitting in this vehicle will bring back great memories; if you haven’t, get ready to smile. As unique as the Beetle and Karman Ghia were in the American market, the Transporter was the poster child for the ‘60’s and ‘70’s surfing crowd as well as being the forerunner of the whole mini-van era. These vehicles hold a unique place in driving history, and this Transporter is a very nice example of those vehicles.
