For Sale: 1956 Oldsmobile Super 88 in Lutz, Florida

Vehicle Description

The Oldsmobile Super 88 has always been a trendsetter. Of course, the OHV Rocket V8 engine was just the beginning, but it launched a performance revolution that we're still enjoying today. Even by the mid-50s, Oldsmobile was delivering big performance with a healthy dose of luxury to match, creating a unique niche in the GM hierarchy. If you wanted a car that could run with the big Pontiacs, yet offered the luxury of a Buick or Cadillac, the 88 was the smart choice.

The two-tone black and white paint conveys a dramatic elegance that you want from an Oldsmobile. Because these are very demanding colors, this is a professional respray that still has plenty of 50s-style gloss when taken out into the sunshine. Of course the tall whitewall tires continue this motif with Cragar wire wheels as the crown jewel in the center. All the sheetmetal appears factory original and expertly restored to show standards. Cool details like the globe hood emblem and bullet-shaped taillights remain, and all the stainless trim pieces have been mirror polished. Plus, both bumpers have taken a trip to the chrome shop and came back looking like new. This is an extremely nice Olds that most passers-by will notice that someone really sweated the details on this one.

The Holiday hardtop coupe style means that people have a clear view of the interior, so it's quite nice to see that the black and white wow factor continues on the inside. The moment you open the door, everything looks pristine and glowing. There was plenty of money invested in keeping the items like the seats, door panels, headliner all looking new – even the glovebox liner looks factory-fresh! Intricate interior style was the calling card for these vehicles, and so for everything to be in place is particularly impressive. And you can even still use it for practical purposes with items like the heater/defroster working perfectly.

Oldsmobile's famous Rocket V8 lives under the hood, ready to drive and enjoy immediately. Thanks to a big horsepower injection in 1956, it makes 240 horsepower from its 324 cubic inches. It's a spirited performer on the road thanks to a broad torque curve and a quick-shifting three-speed GM automatic transmission. It starts easily thanks to a 12-volt electrical system, and idles with a healthy rumble from the exhaust. The engine bay looks amazing with its factory four-barrel Rochester carburetor, the original-style Oldsmobile green block, and hand-painted pinstriping on the air cleaner. It's a comfortable cruiser thanks to power steering and the fact that those cool whitewalls are actually modern BF Goodrich tires.

We've got the maintenance records and restoration receipts to prove this Olds is as superb as it appears. This is power and elegance that's ready to hit the road right now. Call today!!!
