Vehicle Description
About this model: The Mercury Cyclone Spoiler launched the NASCAR
streamliner battle when Cale Yarborough won the Daytona 500 in 1968
in a Woods Brothers Cyclone. Dodge produced the Daytona 500 and
Mercury retaliated with the Mercury Spoiler. Both were to have
streamlined noses, but the Mercury launch was delayed until the
mid-year Cyclone Spoiler II. Only 519 were sold, all with 351-cid
V-8s. A Dan Gurney special edition had a dark blue roof, striping,
and a signature decal on the white lowers, while the Cale
Yarborough edition was red and white like his Woods Brothers car,
with a signature. About this car: About this car: This is a Cale
Yarborough color code car. It was not one of the 519 Spolier II
cars but was painted at the factory with the same unique 2 tone red
and white paint scheme and striping accents. These were introduced
before the spoiler II cars were launched and look just like the
Spoiler II cars to most enthusiasts. The models differ from the
Spoiler II cars because it was a paint scheme offering with out the
performance upgrades. If this was a true Spoiler II car it would be
selling for gobs more $$. These cars are rare in their own right
and it is coded to be a Cale Yarborough "Color Code Car". The car
is for the most part an original car with only light cosmetic and
mechanical repairs/restoration. The car is solid and straight and
as stated above is rare. This cars striping and decals are factory
original style and this "race car" ready look really draws lots of
interest and compliments from all who have seen it since we have
had it on display. We've all been doing classic cars since the mid
80's and it's the first one we've ever offered. If you are looking
for a car with a special twist that will be both fun to use and
have a collectability upside. This is the one!
