For Sale: 1941 Cadillac Series 62 in Saint Louis, Missouri

Vehicle Description

The 1941 Cadillac is considered by many enthusiasts to be one of the best American production cars of the prewar era, a visual masterpiece of subtle, flowing curves and road manners that were way ahead of the times. The 1941 Cadillac’s styling, with its broad, square grille represented a dramatic departure from the more traditional and upright 1940 models. This dramatic new car offered buyers a glimpse into the future, though the outbreak of WWII would halt progress for a few years. The sole available engine, Cadillac’s ultra- refined 346-cubic inch V-8, delivered remarkably silent and smooth operation via the advanced, four-speed Hydra-Matic transmission. Output was a generous 150 horsepower, with plenty of torque for easy and relaxed operation. Ride and handling characteristics remain quite good, even by today’s standards, making Cadillacs of the immediate pre-war era a popular choice for collectors and enthusiasts who enjoy taking their cars out on the open road. Being the last convertibles offered in the prewar era just adds to their desirability. The very handsome Series 62 convertible coupe offered here was built early in the 1941 model year, and originally delivered new through Cadillac’s Detroit branch. According to the build sheet (a copy of which is included in the history file) it still keeps its original engine and presents in the original color scheme. It was restored some time ago in its original and unusual shade of El Centro Green metallic, an attractive color named (rather appropriately) for the California town that, in 1941, was the lettuce-growing capital of the world. The charming Cadillac shows no signs of rust or damage and is best described as a well-presented older restoration of a very solid and intact original car. Since the restoration, it has been very well-preserved with only a few expected signs of wear from use. Much of the exterior brightwork appears to be original and is complete, straight and attractive with a care-worn luster. The largely original brown leather interior is in remarkably good condition given its age and has taken on a wonderful patina which only adds to the charm if this big, beautiful Cadillac. The car is well equipped with many original factory accessories, including the desirable Hydra-Matic transmission, bumper guards, dual rear-view mirrors, a heater, a clock, windshield washers, and fender skirts, and it is also offered with its original manuals. The car has an original trunk liner, and the trunk contains the original spare wheel, jack, and tire iron. This is a great example of a desirable, late pre-war Cadillac convertible in very good condition, displaying a handsome patina that only serves to invite regular use. The rare and unusual color combination only adds to its attractiveness. It would be a welcomed vehicle in CCCA CARavans or other driving and touring events.
