1986 Ford Mustang GT Hatchback - Light Regatta Blue - T-Roof -
Supercharged & Rust-Free***
This 1986 Ford Mustang GT is a striking example of a meticulously
cared-for and thoughtfully upgraded Fox-body Mustang. Finished in
its factory-correct Light Regatta Blue Metallic (code 3J) over
Charcoal/Grey cloth sport seats, this hatchback was originally sold
new at Boro Motors in Metuchen, New Jersey and has led a pampered
life ever since. With a rust-free body, desirable factory options
like the T-roof and Premium Sound, and a deep list of high-end
performance upgrades, this car perfectly blends period correctness
with modernized performance and reliability.
Exterior
The body presents beautifully in Light Regatta Blue Metallic, a
rare and vibrant color that suits the car's original GT trim and
tape package. The paint shines evenly across straight body panels,
and all factory trim, glass, and lighting remain intact and in
excellent condition. The factory T-roof option is a major
highlight, adding both rarity and excitement to the overall
presentation. It wears a set of LMR 10-hole replica wheels in 17x8
front and 17x9 rear, wrapped in brand new (Spring 2024) Michelin
Pilot Sport A/S tires sized 245/45R17 up front and 275/40R17 out
back. This wider, modern setup fills out the wheel wells nicely
without compromising the car's classic GT profile.
Interior:
Inside, the Mustang retains its factory Charcoal and Grey cloth
articulated sport seats in clean, well-preserved condition. The
dash, door panels, and headliner remain tight and free of warping
or major blemishes. Enhancements include a leather-wrapped OEM
steering wheel with added padding, a matching shift knob, and a
Mustang SVO cluster with boost gauge and speedometer-note that
actual mileage is approximately 13,000 miles higher than indicated
due to the gauge swap. Power windows, locks, and the factory AM/FM
cassette stereo with Premium Sound remain in working order,
providing both originality and comfort. The T-roof seals well and
adds a bright, open-air feel to the cockpit.
Under the Hood & Underbody:
This Mustang has been significantly upgraded using top-tier Ford
Racing and aftermarket performance components. The heart of the
build is a Ford Racing 5.0L short block (#M-6009-B50) mated to
Edelbrock Performer 5.0 aluminum heads and a polished Ford Racing
Cobra intake manifold. A Vortec HO S-Trim supercharger "tuner kit"
with supporting upgrades-Walbro 255LPH HP fuel pump, Ford 42 lb/hr
injectors, 90mm MAF, and BBK 70mm throttle body-feeds the motor,
which was professionally dyno-tuned by Lidio at Alternative Auto
Performance in Metro Detroit.
The drivetrain is equally stout, featuring a TREMEC TKO-600 5-speed
(2.87 1st, 0.68 OD), Ford Racing bellhousing, Ram Power Grip HD
clutch, aluminum driveshaft, and Ford Racing 3.73-geared 8.8 rear
with 31-spline Moser axles-set up for an SN95 brake conversion.
Chassis, Suspension, and Brakes:
The underbody is solid, clean, and reinforced with Ford Racing
subframe connectors. Suspension components include Ford Racing
upper arms, Maximum Motorsports adjustable HD rear lower arms, SN95
Cobra front spindles, OEM 1999 Cobra front springs, and Bilstein HD
dampers all around. Steering geometry is dialed in thanks to
Maximum Motorsports camber/caster plates and a Steeda strut tower
brace. Braking has been significantly upgraded with Ford Racing
Cobra 13" front brakes (#M-2300-R), 11.65" rear disc brakes
(#M-2300-M), and North Race Cars conversion brackets. Mustang SVO
parking brake cables and the proper prop valve plug (#M-2450-A)
round out a system that stops as confidently as it accelerates.
Driving Experience:
This Mustang is a thrill to drive-quick to start, smooth at idle,
and surprisingly composed over the road given its capabilities. The
boosted 5.0 pulls hard across the rev range with a distinct
supercharger whine, while the gearing in the TKO-600 makes for
lively acceleration and relaxed highway cruising. The upgraded
suspension and wide Michelins provide excellent grip and stability,
and the upgraded brakes inspire confidence without being grabby.
Power steering, air conditioning, and other accessories remain
intact and functional, making this an ideal street-driven
performance Mustang.
Final Thoughts:
This 1986 Mustang GT is far more than just a clean survivor-it's a
thoughtfully upgraded, rust-free example with a high-end parts list
and top-tier build quality. Whether you're a Fox-body enthusiast, a
seasoned Mustang collector, or simply someone who appreciates a
classic muscle car that's been done right, this car checks all the
boxes. It retains its original soul while delivering modern
performance and reliability thanks to quality work and meticulous
ownership. It's ready to enjoy now-cruise it, show it, or just rip
down the highway with the T-tops off and the supercharger
screaming.
