Vehicle Description
1930 Ford Model A Pickup
The 2023 Ford Lightning has collision assist, pedestrian detection,
lane assist, dual motors that produced 580 horsepower, a 10,000
pound towing capacity, nearly 53 cubic feet of cargo area in the
bed, heated front seats, a rearview camera, a Wi-Fi hotspot with
voice recognition, and, oh, juice box holders in the back seat. One
hundred years ago, it was a much different story. Ford trucks had a
cab, a bed, an engine, a steering wheel, and if you were lucky, 40
horsepower. Juice box holders? Heck, there weren't even
cupholders!
For consignment, a 1930 Ford pickup truck, a stout little street
rod with glistening brown paint and a cabin lined in wood like a
finely crafted boat. It still doesn't have any cupholders but when
you see the interior, you might decide to refrain from bringing
beverages inside!
Exterior
This lowered street rod truck is bathed in several shades of Brown
Metallic, a highly reflective hue that thanks to embedded bronze
flake, changes in color and brightness depending on what angle
you're peering at. Cleverly disguised within the dynamic paint are
ghost flames which give off a slight bronze light and are almost
imperceptible at distance. The attractive cab is a five window
version with rear quarter window and a rectangular rear window just
big enough for straight rear viewing. Rhino coating covers the bed
in black and behind it, the Ford stamped tailgate rises over a
straight valance that houses the diminutive tail lights over the
chrome tips of dual exhaust. The 15-inch steel wheels are color
matched to the body and include trim rings and moon hubcaps, and
the staggered size of the tires creates an aggressive raked stance
where the running board runs uphill to the wide fenders that
envelope the tire. The only imperfection we note is an area of
paint run.
Interior
Black vinyl door cards with a stitched insert top a carpeted low
section and are in fine condition and sharing this stitched pattern
with the bucket seats which are thickly padded and mid height. Body
colored spokes of the sport steering wheel are surrounded by a
grippy black rim and lead to more shiny brown paint on the
dashboard where a wood inlaid panel holds the instrument cluster in
the center housing five VDO gauges. Just above, knobs to control
the A/C are lined up between electric window switches from a car
from this century, and just below the dash, a tachometer to monitor
engine RPMs. A tall shifter curves in two places of its polished
shaft and rises high in perfect contour with the dash, surrounded
by low pile black carpet in very clean condition. The side walls
and ceiling are completely lined in polished wood planks giving the
cab the feeling of a mountain retreat, warm and cozy and certainly
unique. An overhead console houses the AM/FM/CD radio in a nifty
top mounted shelf.
Drivetrain
The show ready engine is gleaming with polished parts, coated
headers, and some chrome accessories. Open to the atmosphere, we
have a 302ci V8 fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor and backed by a C4
3-speed automatic transmission. Power is sent to the rear wheels
and a Ford 8" rear end. Power brakes have been added and are
configured as discs up front and drums in the rear.
Undercarriage
The dual exhaust is stainless and each pipe has an electronically
controlled cut-out midway and before meeting glasspack style
mufflers and heading back with continual shine all the way to the
tips. No surface rust to speak of and only a drop of oil on the
pan, the underside is overall clean. Coil over suspension is
mounted up front while ladder bars with coilovers reside in
back.
Drive-Ability
A pump of the gas and a turn of the key and we run this clean
machine around our test loop to test functionality, and we have no
complaints about the cabin. It's a very nice place to be and just
happens to operate a handsome exterior. The exhaust note is sweet,
and we didn't even open up the cut-outs! Acceleration is very good,
tracking is straight, and the truck handles well. And what do you
know! All functions work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
We get our fair share of street rodded Model A's and we've seen
every color of the rainbow. This metallic brown is a standout, the
muscular stance of this compact truck makes for a very attractive
ride, and the interior is unique. This is a very nice build that's
sure to be a crowd pleaser, even if that's a crowd of one and that
one is you!
