1983 Land Rover Defender in Chattanooga, Tennessee

Vehicle Description

Chassis No. SALLDHMH7AA189404

Originally built in exceedingly limited quantities by the Land Rover special vehicles department in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Defender 110 6x6 is the ultimate Defender, rarely seen - despite its size. Upon catching a glimpse of one while in the United Kingdom, the team at Manz Motor Company of Lyndeborough, New Hampshire, returned home, determined to create their own.

Beginning with a 1983 Land Rover Defender 110, the team at Manz converted the truck to left-hand drive and extended the rear of the chassis to accommodate the custom third axle at the rear. A custom pickup truck bed was crafted to go on top of the newly created 6x6, along with custom rear wheel arches, Optimill wing top vents, tubular side steps, and a tubular rear bumper with a receiver hitch. Finished in Aston Martin Xenon Grey, the exterior cosmetics have been enhanced with a full Puma-style carbon fiber hood along with anodized aluminum door hinges and handles along with upgraded LED lighting with auxiliary roof-mounted driving lights ensuring much-improved visibility.

Powering this Defender double cab pickup is a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine, producing 480 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed 6L80E automatic transmission with a push-button gear selector. The entire driveline has been meticulously upgraded, from the rebuilt transfer case to the enhanced differentials. With full-time four-wheel drive, the onboard air compressor pneumatically engages the rear axle when the transfer case differential lock is activated. The vehicle's suspension system, featuring Fox 2.0 remote reservoir shock absorbers, lower durometer polyurethane bushings, and a two inch lift, allows for the installation of 35 inch Nitto Trail Grappler tires on 16 inch Spectre Style wheels. Stopping power has been significantly improved with a Wilwood master cylinder and six-piston front calipers, and four-piston units for both rear axles. A 12,000 pound Warn Zeon 12-S winch has been mounted in conjunction with a stout front bumper for added peace of mind when off-roading.

Inside, the double cab body features a black and tan color scheme with bespoke woven leather seat inserts on the four individual heated Ruskin bucket seats. The cabin is equipped with modern amenities, including an Alpine touchscreen infotainment system with and with Apple CarPlay through a high-quality JL Audio sound system. Other interior upgrades include a MOMO steering wheel, power windows, Classic Instruments auto cross gauges, black carpeting, black-finished billet door hardware, a tan microsuede headliner, and a rearview camera. To ensure a comfortable ride, a modern air conditioning system with enhanced cooling capacity has been installed.

The Defender 110 6x6, originally built by Land Rover for military and safari use, has evolved into a luxurious on and off-road vehicle in the hands of Manz Motor Company. This road-legal titan combines classic Land Rover rugged capability with modern high-end refinement, excelling both on rough terrain and the paved roads on the way there. As the first example produced, this Defender 110 6x6 double cab pickup by Manz offers exclusivity and unparalleled performance, appealing to those seeking adventure and the envious gaze of others without sacrificing luxury.
