Vehicle Description
1961 Cadillac Fleetwood Hardtop Sedan 135 Pictures and a Video of
this Low Mileage Beautiful Cruiser! Recently acquired from a
multi-vehicle private collection accumulated over many decades. The
1961 Fleetwood pillarless sedan is called a Sixty Special and
indeed it is,,, "Special"! The Caddy was in row towards the back
and not necessarily fitting the overall theme of the acquired
collection but it was clear the late new vehicle franchise dealer
collector had great taste in automobiles. It started! The Caddy
after many years slumber, after a few calf numbing pumps and new
battery, started right up and drove out as if proving itself among
a room full of cars that just wouldn't play along and want to run
in spit all our efforts. (It was a very very long day getting the
collection moved). As I mentioned, the Cadillac was a rock star! It
showed them who was king and we were very happy as that is some
heavy real estate to try and push. We were obviously pleasantly
surprised. Last transaction where the Caddy was transferred to our
collector and on road was back in August 29, 2002 with a mere
45,087 on odometer. Just 66 miles in the past almost 22 years!
Check out these photos posted and more added with time. This 1961
Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special was delivered new in Dresden Blue
over blue Cambridge interior, and its 390ci V8 is paired with
four-speed automatic transmission. The two-spoke steering wheel
frames a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and a five-digit odometer
that shows just 45k miles. The car is also equipped with a radio,
Power windows, Power seats, Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Power
Brakes and steel wheels with turbine-style covers. Starting in
1960, the fins were just a little shorter, without the
bullet-shaped taillights. The 1961 Cadillacs were totally redone,
and again, the fins got just a little more discreet-though you
still couldn't miss them! A total of 138,379 Cadillacs were built
for the model year, and only 15,500 of them were Fleetwood Sixty
Specials. The Sixty Special had a curb weight of 4770 pounds and
"achieved new luxury, spaciousness, and good taste, combined in a
supreme expression of the stylist's craft," according to the 1961
Cadillac brochure. The easiest way to spot a Fleetwood Sixty
Special from other '61 Cadillacs was the wide, formal C-pillar.
Other Cadillac sedans had either the "six-window" roof with a very
slim C-pillar or "four-window" roof with a distinctive wraparound
rear window, as seen on the Series 62s and de Villes. Decoding the
