Vehicle Description
1972 Chevrolet C10 Pickup
It's no secret that Chevrolet builds some of the most celebrated
trucks on the planet. From the AK era forward, every generation has
found a solid following and, eventually, firm footing in the
collector car world. Over the past few years, we've featured plenty
of vintage, ground-pounding bowties, and this righteous purple
people eater is just the latest in a series of sweet C/K head
turners.
For consignment, the "it " year to have when it comes to the C-10
pickup in the form of a 1972 version. This one comes with some new
parts and would be considered to be in the throes of a restoration.
Issues to deal with would be rust within the inner fenders and
radiator mount, and the window tracks are irregular, however the
truck is all there. New parts not installed include those inner
fenders, a radiator support, light lenses, a window door track kit
and weather stripping as well as CPP Classic Performance 2-inch
drop front coil springs and 4 inch drop rear coil springs. All you
need to do is install them!
Exterior
The above issues notwithstanding, the truck overall is painted in
Medium Blue, and has a white painted roof. The bowtie badged grille
is looking good as is the front bumper below. Screws mounting this
grille are showing rusting. The paint overall shows with a matte
finished save for the tailgate which has a newer shiny respray. The
rear bumper is rusted however the consignor states another one will
come with this truck. The bed is rubber lined and fenders show
plenty of scratching from use. Some edges of the trunk present with
a respray, also presumably due to rust remediation which was
performed on these edges. The badging is all on and the chrome is
in good condition throughout. A sliding rear glass window is
installed and our consignor states he has the original one with
weather stripping. 15-inch wheels are wrapped with NEXEN Roadian HT
all weather tires in 255/70R15 format.
Interior
More light blue steel for the doors and dark blue vinyl covered
panels for the armrest and actuators and cranks. The dash is
factory and is looking good with the blue steel surrounding the
instruments appearing as nearly factory fresh. Down below, the
floors are dirty and covered in rubber. A dark blue broadcloth
bench is stretched from door to door and it has a light blue
bolster in vinyl. In the dash an aftermarket radio featuring an
AM/FM/Cassette player is installed. Temp sliders are within the
ignition panel below the radio. In front of the passenger is a
large glovebox door.
Drivetrain
Under the hood in a patinaed environment showing some rust on
various components, sits a red/orange painted block and valve
covering 307ci V8. It is topped with a 2-barrel carburetor and has
a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission on back. A 12 bolt rear axle
is on this truck.
Undercarriage
Plenty of surface rust is noted on the framing but it remains
structurally sound save for that radiator mounting. Some bare steel
is showing on the floor of the bed underside, and the underside of
the oil pan shows slight oiling. Surface rusted independent coil
springs are up front and in back is a 3 link with coil springs with
new shocks. Power disc brakes are oil front and power drums are on
back with new calipers. Dual outlet glass pack style exhaust and
mufflers are on.
Drive-Ability
The truck fired right up but idled with a slight miss thatwent away
as the truck warmed up. Off to the test track where we the brake
pedal is hard initially then it kicks in and the braking works as
it should. The shifting is smooth but we noted that the power
steering leaks and the horn and radio are not functional.
This truck overall remains solid and comes with lots of parts to
remediate some problems that come with it. Grab a wrench and create
a classic making it your color and mechanically sound.
