Vehicle Description
Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is pleased to present
this 1962 AMC Rambler American convertible finished in a gorgeous
Corsican Gold Metallic. When you think of reliability in today's
standards, a family hatchback or crossover comes to mind. Back in
the Sixties however, at the mere mention of reliability and
efficiency, it would not be surprising if you heard about the AMC
Rambler American. With its period-correct design, reliability and
functionality thrown into the mix, the AMC Rambler American was a
deal on wheels and one that dominated the market back in the day.
This American is powered by a 196 CID inline-six cylinder with a
Holley carburetor that produced 90hp and is mated to the new and
improved Flash-O-Matic automatic which provided higher efficiency
and better gas mileage. The interior is dressed to match the
outside with gold touches throughout on the front and rear vinyl
bench seats, door panels and dash pad. Interior amenities included
factory air conditioning, seatbelts, a power convertible top and an
AM radio. The two-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in an aftermarket
cover and frames a horizontal 120-mph speedometer along with gauges
for fuel level and coolant temperature. With a full-sized car feel
in a compact package, this car was "green and economical" way
before it was cool! Small, lightweight, economical, and easy to
drive, it's no wonder why this car was such a huge success.
