The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 was the first post-SC model 911 offering the Turbo’s look for non-turbo cars. The M491 option (the internal code for the factory “Turbo-look”) included the 930 Turbo’s wide F & R fenders & wheel arches, and the huge “whaletail” or “tea tray” wing on the back, upgraded suspension components, bigger wheels and the superb Turbo brakes. The Turbo-Look option package also included the 930 front apron with black rubber elastic spoiler and integrated front driving lights. The 911 Carrera 3.2 M491, though rare, was immensely popular in the United States.
One of only 1,684 total M491 Cabriolet models manufactured by Porsche during model years 1985-1989, and only 305 USA models for 1987, this is a rare car, in excellent condition. It was purchased in 2015 by its current owner, a PCA member. The previous owner (also a PCA member in Pennsylvania), bought the car in 2006 at 61,000 miles. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity is included, and this car is also listed in the Turbo-Look Register (https://www.turbo-look.com/)

The Fuchs wheels (16 X 7 in. F., 16 X 9 in. R.) are in excellent condition, with Toyo Proxes tires mounted. A valve adjustment, oil & filter change and brake flush were done in 2023. An engine-out service including a new clutch, resurfaced flywheel, rear main seal, release bearing, fork, etc. was done in 2013/2014. A PPI done in 2015 prior to current ownership indicated that though there was no damage, the passenger side door, driver side hinge plate, and quarter panel were repainted properly.
A thorough pre-sale inspection has been recently (Feb. 17, 2023) conducted by a local Porsche shop (Rennstaat), included a compression test , valve cover removal & head studs inspection, valve adjustment - with an oil & filter change, brake fluid flush, new spark plugs, and a new DME relay.
Technician’s notes: “(Compression) Specifications - Normal pressure: 142-184psi, Minimum pressure; 107psi - Maximum variation between cylinders: 22psi (12.9%) Actual values based on test: 1. 175psi, 2. 181psi, 3. 180psi, 4. 172psi, 5. 176psi, 6. 173psi. Difference between cylinders: 9psi (5%). Cylinder psi numbers are well within spec. Based on these numbers, the engine is healthy.”
Still quick, even by today’s standards, it will accelerate from 0-60 in just 5.3 seconds, with the quarter mile in 13.9 seconds at 100 mph, and top track speed (computer-limited) of 149 MPH.
