The world was first introduced to the Pininfarina-styled Ferrari
308 GTB during the 1975 Paris Motor Show. The engine fitted to the
new 308 was a 2.9-liter Tipo F106 AB V8 with four twin-choke Weber
40DCNF carburetors producing 240 hp in US specification. The
open-top GT Spyder would be released two short years later, during
the 1977 Frankfurt Motor Show, perfect for those wanting an
open-air Ferrari. The final development of the 308 would come in
1982 with the launch of the Quattrovalvole. The same basic engine
was used as before, but this time the cylinder heads were improved
with four valves per cylinder in addition to using Bosch fuel
injection. Even with stricter emissions regulations, the US cars
were able to produce similar power levels as before.
This particular 308 GT Spyder, chassis number 50987, was produced
in March 1984, the second to last year of production. The body is
finished in the classic color of Rosso Corsa, beautifully
contrasted by the Beige Connolly leather interior. A well-optioned
example, this car is equipped with both air conditioning and power
windows. Being a GT Spyder, this car has the added benefit of
creating a wonderful open-air driving experience.
This 308 recently had a belt service completed in January 2023 by
Merlin Auto Group of Atlanta, GA, in preparation for this sale.
Merlin Auto Group was also commissioned to service the car in April
2022, following a complete inspection. A set of four Michelin
205/55 tires were fit to the optional 16" five-spoke alloys,
leaving the original and unused spare wheel with its factory-fit
Pirelli. The steering rack was rebuilt and resealed, rectifying a
worn bushing. The air conditioning system was recharged with R134a,
having been converted under previous ownership. Today this 308 GT
Spyder displays only 21,700 miles at the time of cataloging, which
would make it an excellent addition to any stable showcasing the
best of Ferrari.
