Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1973 BMW 2002tii. Finished
in the original factory color of Golf Yellow, this was a life-long
California car before coming to Georgia in 2016 and it shows. The
body is straight and solid with good door fitment and panel gaps.
The car was repainted in the 1990s to a nice standard and the
finish has held up well, although the roof, decklid and door uppers
have faded ever so slightly. Excellent original underside with no
evidence of prior accident damage or rust repair. Never undercoated
and not hiding any unpleasant surprises. With the present
enthusiast owner since 2021, who bought it as a nearly-complete
work-in-progress from the estate of a good friend who was in the
process of a comprehensive cosmetic and mechanical refresh.
Work under current and previous ownership included new carpet,
Recaro sport seats with new houndstooth upholstery and an exquisite
Nardi wood steering wheel. Very nice original crack-free dash. All
gauges, lights, indicators and switches are working as they should.
Dealer-installed Behr A/C system has all components intact and
operational, but has not been converted to R134a and is not blowing
cold. Professionally refinished tii wheels are wearing nearly new
Pirelli Cinturato tires.
Records indicate the original, numbers-matching fuel-injected 2.0
liter engine was rebuilt at 128k miles some years ago in
California. Recent mechanical work includes a desirable 5-speed
transmission swap with new clutch, plus an upgrade to a limited
slip differential. The engine has been fully serviced with a
reseal, MFI pump overhaul and complete tune-up (including a 123
distributor with electronic ignition and bluetooth interface).
Additional recent service includes new subframe bushings, new front
and rear sway bars, new springs all around, serviced front wheel
bearings and new rear brakes (front brakes and Bilstein shocks were
replaced a few years previously).
With the five speed and LSD, this 2002tii is a very nice car for
touring. It's a joy to drive around town or on a winding road, but
also comfortable for an extended highway trip. Certainly among the
most composed and best sorted and best driving '02s we've
experienced. Included with the sale are the original owner's books,
stamped service book, period sales literature and extensive service
