Chevy SS454 Pickup in excellent condition. This is the original
true ""Muscle Truck"" designed by the team at Chevrolet who saw a
market for a big block engine in a light weight truck. Of course
there was a market for this!
Ok, so the 454 SS was still a full-size truck, but it was the
lightest iteration of that model offering a power to weight ratio
that proved to be incredibly fun to drive. This half-ton chassis
was only offered in two-wheel drive, with the short-box and
single-cab configuration. Curb weight is just under 4500 lbs. Now
enter the drivetrain...
The 454 big block engines used were the same found on the
heavy-duty pickup assembly line. Chevrolet rated these at 230 hp
with 385 ft lbs of torque. With that kind of torque on tap, it is
difficult for some to keep control of their right foot as
temptation to do smokey burnouts is high! Sending the power
rearward is the heavy duty TH400, 3-speed automatic transmission
feeding the massive and strong 14-bolt rear axle spinning 3.73
gears and posi-traction differential. This is the same rear axle
used in � ton and 1-ton pickups but converted from 8 lug to 5 lug
for use only in the SS454.
Surprisingly, this combination wasn't just good for straight line
acceleration - it proved to be more than capable in the handling
department as well. Standard equipment on the SS454 included
Bilstein shocks front and rear, larger diameter front sway bar,
quick ratio steering, and huge BFGoodrich 275/60/15 Radial T/A
tires on all 4 corners.
Cosmetically, the ""SS"" truck had a few unique items that set it
apart from other, similar � ton pickups. The front bumper has
integrated fog lights to give it an ""angrier"" look, while the
bumpers, mirrors, and grille were all blacked out for a sinister,
Darth Vader-ish look. And who can forget the iconic ""SS454""
graphics down each side of the truck bed displaying exactly what
was going on under the hood?
This truck has only 15,022 miles on the clock and has been well
cared for since day one as you can see in the photos. It is not
only a great performing truck, but it is also very comfortable with
its plush interior and carpet, plus standard options including
power steering, power brakes, cruise control, A/C, power windows
and locks.
Because Chevrolet kept production numbers low, these trucks are
