Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is excited to be able to
present a true MOPAR legend, this 1969 Dodge Super Bee. Only
produced for 1968-1971, the Super Bee moniker became synonymous
with low-cost factory performance in the Golden Age of American
muscle cars and was created to compete directly with the Plymouth
Road Runner. Senior Dodge designer, Harvey J. Winn, actually won a
"contest" with the name "Super Bee" (coined from the B-platform
nickname) and a new logo design loosely based on the Dodge "Scat
Pack" Bee medallion. The design of the first Super Bee was
influenced by the 1968 Coronet convertible and the show car's
interior was built by the Alexander Brothers. The original Super
Bee show car was 1st introduced at the 1968 Detroit Auto Show & the
rest is muscle car history! With just under 28,000 total Super Bees
produced in 1969 (258 of them were 426 Hemi cars & 1,907 of them
were 440 Six Pack cars), the collectability of this forgotten
muscle car is definitely on the rise! This example is sporting a
period correct (but not numbers matching) 383 CID V8 that is now
paired up to a modern Tremec 5-speed manual transmission for some
real driving excitement. Some of the performance "coolness" factors
under the hood are the Holley electronic choke 4-barrel carb, a
newer Vintage Air A/C system, new front suspension, alternator,
steering box & power steering pump and an Accel Super Stack coil &
plug wires, newer interior upholstery, updated gauges, newer 15"
staggered B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A's, all the Super Bee emblems, a
retro-fit AM/FM/Bluetooth head unit, etc. While not absolutely
pristine, the newer bronze paint is most definitely an eye-catcher
& suits the personality of this classic MOPAR to a tee! These are
getting harder & harder to find and will make a nice addition to
anyone's collection!
