Gateway Classic Cars of Tampa is proud to offer this 1974 Pontiac
Trans Am Super Duty 455. In the Pontiac enthusiast world, the words
SUPER DUTY are highly revered. No car exemplified Pontiac's Super
Duty philosophy better that the SD-455 Firebirds of the early 70s.
By 1972 the writing was on the wall. Performance was out, fuel
efficiency and personal luxury was in. When everyone else shuttered
their performance plans, Pontiac looked at the memo - then tossed
it in the trash! Fortunately, engineers were hard at work on the
SD-455 when the winds started changing. So, with minor tweaks to
appease the government, the SD-455 hit the streets to rave reviews.
It made 290hp and a monstrous 395lb-fts of torque despite
concessions to the EPA. A 73-74 Firebird Equipped with a SD-455 was
capable of low-mid 13 second mile times when a Corvette struggled
to do better than 14 seconds. This 1974 SD-455 Trans Am was a
well-documented and preserved, original, Buccaneer Red rocket,
before undergoing rotisserie restoration to showroom condition.
Everything is as it was when built except for some choice
enhancements by Pontiac performance specialist, Butler performance.
The block and heads are original, and the vin denotes an "X" code,
ensuring this is a real SD optioned car. The paint, interior, and
engine bay are just short of concourse. The car runs and drives
better than you remember and if the exhaust note and shaker didn't
get your attention, the acceleration will! These cars are RARE.
Only 1296 SD cars were built in 1974; with 943 being pricier Trans
Ams. These are rarely seen in the wild, and often aren't for sale.
