Gateway Classic Cars of Fort Lauderdale presents this 1985 Porsche
928S in white on black and red. "Porsche... there IS no substitute"
as Tom Cruise so famously said in the 1983 film "Risky Business",
after he evaded some bad guys in his dad's Porsche 928. This
particular car has upgraded headlamps, recent paint, custom front
buckets and wheels, adding value to your run of the mill 80's 928.
While it still needs some finishing work, it looks good and could
be a fun first car for someone. 928's differed from other Porsche
models in looks (similar but considerably larger than the 924 and
944's) but the 928's offered powerful V8's where the rest of the
line did not. They were technically advanced vehicles back in the
day, and expensive meaning they were usually reserved for affluent
buyers. They made Corvettes look primitive. Car & Driver Magazine
tested the improved 1985 928 and had this to say: 1985 Porsche 928S
is a substantial improvement over its predecessor. Top speed is
154. Our five-speed test car rocketed from a standing start to 60
mph in 5.7 seconds and hit 100 mph less than eight seconds later.
And the new model burned through the standing quarter-mile in 14.0
seconds at 102 mph". This particular car has the automatic, which
would have been close to those numbers. This is a relatively
inexpensive car given the tech and high price these commanded new.
928's are fun to drive, sound very cool, and have very distinctive
design.
