Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is pleased to offer for your consideration this
1970 Camaro Z/28 Rally Sport. This car is a "real-deal" Z/28 RS and
we have the original sales order, invoice, and window sticker to
back it up. This beauty was originally sold in Los Angeles,
California and spent most of it's life there. It is dressed in the
same colors it was ordered with - Hugger Orange with white stripes.
The paint looks great from 5 feet, but on closer inspection there
are small nicks, imperfections, and touch-ups that put it in a
driver-quality category. These small demerits sure don't take away
from the cool-factor of the whole package though. The RS front end
looks great with the split bumper, protruding grill, and black chin
spoiler. Chrome rocker covers are in good condition and they
accentuate the chrome window trim and door handles. Dual body-color
side mirrors flank each side and dual exhaust tips gleam in the
rear. Also in the rear is a spoiler on the trunk. This Z/28 sits on
original 5-spoke grey Chevrolet 15" mag-type steel wheels wrapped
in Firestone Wide Oval tires. Under the hood is a Turbo-fire 350
LT1 V-8 solid lifter engine that we believe is likely original to
the car. The suffix code and block number are correct and the
correct double-hump heads are present, but when we looked for the
matching numbers underneath on the tab above the oil filter we
found them unreadable (too rough and too much paint). A previous
seller who once represented the car claimed the engine to be
rebuilt, but we have no proof of that. The engine bay is clean,
tidy, and stock in appearance. The 350 is mated to a Muncie 4-speed
transmission the puts the power down through a 12-bolt Posi rear
with 4:10 gears. The transmission and gear ratio are a match to how
the car was originally ordered. This is a rather rare combination,
as only 1,185 of the 8,733 Z/28's built that year had this gear
ratio. While under the hood you'll also notice finned valve covers
with cross-flags emblem, cast manifolds, power steering, and power
brakes (disc/drum). Inside the car is a black interior with nice
vinyl bucket seats. The center console features an armrest, storage
box, seat belt holders, Hurst shifter with stainless steel knob,
and wood-grain accents. The wood-grain inserts continue on the
dash, door panels, and steering wheel. The door panels are in good
condition as is the RS steering wheel with tilt column. The drivers
door features an interior side mirror control. The original AM/FM
stereo is present, but inoperable. The crack-free dash houses a
150mph speedometer and an 8K tachometer (inoperable). The headliner
is tight and in good condition. The black carpet does show some
signs of age, but is in satisfactory condition. In the glovebox is
an original owners manual. The clean trunk features a full-size
spare tire. If you're on the hunt for a real second gen Z/28 RS,
you know how hard it is to find one. This is a rare opportunity to
get one that is ready to hit the road and cruise to a show
today.
