The 356 has been acknowledged by the world as one of the greatest sports cars in history. Introduced in 1948 the 356 started out as a streamlined aluminum car with a flat air cooled 4 cylinder rated at 45 HP, similar in design to the VW. As time progressed so did Porsches 356 becoming a much more powerful and competitive sports car both on and off the track. It really wasn’t until the near end of the 356’s run that it would hit its high point in drivability, power and design. In 1960 the 356 “B” was introduced where redesigned front and rear sheetmetal were introduced, raised front headlamps and fenders as well as a new steering column and upgraded brakes. The Super was also introduced which would boost horsepower up another 15HP. The “C” was introduced in 1964 and were arguably the greatest version of the 356, especially the “SC” that offered 95 horsepower. These cars also had their drum brakes replaced with disc brakes on all four wheels as well as a ZF steering box, upgraded rear suspension higher compression and a counterbalanced crankshaft. Overall the 356SC is the greatest non-Carrera version ever to be produced by Porsche.
