Vehicle Description
If you want a Mustang Cobra, the 1999 model year is the one to own.
This sleek drop-top comes with a fully independent suspension, a
five-speed stick transmission, and a 32-valve DOHC 4.6-liter engine
churning out 320 hp. So it's amazing this much performance and such
a distinct package can be so affordable.
Those who know Mustang Cobras, also know that 1999 is pivotal. This
is the first year that Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT) got to do
everything they've always wanted to put into a Mustang. So this is
already instantly collectible, even before you know that they built
less than 320 convertibles in this distinct Electric Green
Metallic. It's a terrific color that has the kind of vibrant style
that seems to radiate power, and this car is coming off of a decade
of long-term ownership where you can tell it was properly
respected. So not only is the paint believed to be the factory
application, but also the relatively low odometer is believed to
reflect the full actual mileage. It makes for a nice look with a
proper fit and finish. That really helps showcase the Cobra's
special pieces, like the front air splitter, full-width rear
spoiler, snake-bitten badges, and a special hood. The final touch
is the set of 17-inch SVT alloy wheels that are so cool, they
actually are the wheel of choice for many Shelby Cobra replicas
today.
The tan convertible top has a clean look and snug fit. So the green
and tan color combo have a very cool presentation. And since it all
goes so well together, we're especially happy to see there's a
premium tan interior under the folding roof. The upholstery shows
more of the well-respected style with its clean presentation, and
the supple leather feels great on the supportive front sports
seats. White-faced analog gauges, a leather-wrapped wheel, a tilt
column, cruise control, power steering, and a power seat are all
part of the performance package for the driver. Plus, power locks,
keyless entry/alarm, power mirrors, keyless entry, dual airbags,
and an upgraded AM/FM/CD stereo with Bluetooth (the original also
comes with the sale) will keep everyone happy. But the features
you're going to enjoy the most are the power windows and power
convertible top. Together, they mean you don't even have to leave
the driver's seat when you want nothing getting in the way of
hearing that exhaust growl. Plus, you can enjoy this top-down
experience long into the summer season thanks to R134a air
conditioning with a newer compressor.
Since this car has been so well cared for thus far, it should be no
surprise that the performance-bred V8 looks so good. It's correct,
right down to the special SVT plaque on the valve cover (keen eyes
will spot the upgraded air intake.) The DOHC 4.6-liter V8 is a
thoroughly modern motor that has created a whole new generation of
Mustang fans. The 32-valve setup means plenty of low-end power to
get off the line, and the 320 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque mean
there's still power on tap when getting up to triple-digit speeds.
You have complete control over this stout powerplant thanks to the
five-speed manual transmission. And speaking of control, this is
the first and only of the fourth-gen Mustangs that came from the
factory with a fully independent rear suspension. Massive
four-wheel disc brakes with ABS were also part of the Cobra package
to deliver a truly capable sports car.
This rare color benchmark Cobra has been treated with the respect
you would want for your future classic. So at this affordable
price, we know it won't be staying here for very long. Don't miss
