Vehicle Description
This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 tribute has a nice color combo,
an overdrive transmission, and a comfy deluxe interior. So it's a
nice-guy cruiser, right...nope. There's a fully upgraded
suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and one of the largest big
blocks available upgraded further with nitrous (oh yes!) to make
sure this is an icon that knows how to own the blacktop.
Butternut Yellow is a great color for this car. It defines the era
nicely, and it's a later application that makes sure the classic
curves show off a nice gloss. We also like this light hue because
it gives a clean contrast to the car's dark side. It starts with
the D90 Super Sport stripe that's painted on to give the stinger a
crisp and lasting definition. There's also the blackout SS grille,
chin spoiler, and a blackout rear panel that signals there's a big
block under the hood. Even those extra meaty rear tires seem to
contribute to the dark and speedy style. The large cowl hood
polished American Racing wheel, and classic D80 rear spoiler are
all part of this power coupe look, too. But more than just pure
muscle, the bright chrome bumpers and good panel fit signal this is
a car that has an eye for overall quality.
Just like the exterior, the interior likes to be vintage and nice
while also making sure you know this is an upgraded coupe. So you
have the classic deluxe trim with upgraded seats and doors. The
carpeting, dash pad, and headliner continue the dark and quality
appearance. It's an overall attractive style where you'll like
everything from the working dome light to the upgraded AM/FM/CD
stereo with aux input. But the best features are all about a
driver's car. That means classic pieces like a three-spoke SS
steering wheel, power steering, and a center console with a
horseshoe shifter. The gauges have been fully upgraded to AutoMeter
Ultra-Lite II readouts. This includes the large speedo and tach
that are directly in front of you and the full quad auxiliary gauge
package on the console.
The engine bay is filled with big block power. It's showcased with
smooth black inner walls, polished finned valve covers, and an
overall tidy style. While the fender callouts say 396, that's just
for history's sake because it's really running a 502 cubic-inch V8.
While the displacement is already enough to deliver awesome power,
that's just the base for the full performance build here. This has
Edelbrock aluminum heads, a Weiand intake, and topped with a Holley
four-barrel carburetor. There are even long tube headers feeding
the dual exhaust and Cherry Bomb mufflers. And we bet you've
already spotted the nitrous in the photos. The full Zex system
makes sure to make sure this big block Camaro owns any piece of
pavement it wants. There are also good supporting pieces, like the
MSD distributor and an aluminum radiator with electric fan. The
4L60E four-speed automatic transmission is the ideal pairing that
has a stout construction and overdrive cruising. It feeds a strong
Dana 60 limited-slip rear with 35 Strange Engineering 35-spline
axles. As you look underneath, you're going to spot plenty more
upgrades, including tubular front control arms, CalTracs rear bars,
Koni shocks, and four-wheel power disc brakes.
