Take a look at this beautiful 1940 Mercury Eight Coupe brought to
you by Zoom Classic Cars. This Old School race car was successfully
raced up and down the East Coast for many years and features an
original Ford Side Oiler 427CI 450HP Engine with two 4 Barrel Holly
carbs that was purchased new from the Ford Racing division in 1966
and has the factory Invoice as proof. Engine casting number is SJ25
which translates to Super Jet Engine built on February 5, 1966 at
3pm. It is situated in a very clean engine compartment and coupled
with a top loader transmission, 4 Speed Hurst shifter, 9 inch Ford
rearend and 350 Posi gears. 84,388 miles on the odometer. The
current owner purchased the car in 2001 and converted it into a
street driving car keeping all the race components including the
racing rearend with Detroit Locker and many other parts that will
go with the sale including a very rare second extra high capacity
fuel pump. Owner has driven the car less than 2,000 miles since
purchase always running the car on C12 VP race fuel or leaded gas
only to preserve the engine valves. Car is equipped with 1967
Mustang dual piston front disc brakes with drums in the rear. Paint
is metalflake maroon is in overall excellent condtion. The hood had
to be repainted and is slightly mismatched as shown. Black interior
is from a 1966 Mustang including bucket seats with rare Shelby
seatbelts and rear bench seat in excellent condition including the
headliner. Full instrument gauges in working order including
aftermarket Stewart Warner gauges with 1966 Tachometer. Trunk is
very clean and where you'll find the new Optima battery mounted and
full spare tire. Undercarriage is in beautiful condition and
maintains the tow bars in front and traction bars in back from its
racing past. The body of the car is very straight all around with
all panels lining up nicely, all chrome in very nice condition and
all the proper badging intact and in great condition as well. Car
also comes with rare 1957 turnpike cruiser racing wheel covers.
This Merc has been meticulously maintained by the current owner,
runs and drives very well and is very FAST. Car comes with loads of
documentation including details of every part used on the car over
the years, 1940 License plates and reproduction owners manual. The
is a great car for the 40 Merc or 427 Side Oiler engine enthusiast
