of Cadillac?s venerable sedans that could devour hundreds of miles
of road per day and come back for more, this 1998 Deville Sedan is
proof that comfort and technology found peaceful co-existence after
all. Though it had switched a front-drive platform years ago, which
yields a relatively flat cabin floor, the car seems just as big as
land yachts of yore. Built on October 23, 1997, in Cadillac?s
Hamtramck factory in Detroit, Michigan, this example is dressed in
Mulberry (code 06) and the paint and trim are in overall very good
order. It was sold at Heritage Cadillac in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
The bodywork is straight and solid, the body-colored bumpers fit
tightly to the body and the engine bay is immaculate. The trunk is
clean but has several extraneous items. This car has a full
Mulberry vinyl roof and gold accents. This cruiser rides on
Michelin XW4 white stripe radials, size P225/60R16 at every corner.
Each tire is mounted to a full chrome alloy wheel. The wheels and
tires are all in very good order. Under the counterbalanced hood is
Cadillac?s Northstar engine, a 4.6L, 32-valve, DOHC motor (code
LD8) with sequential fuel injection (SFI). Backing the motor is a
4T80-E four-speed automatic transmission (code MH1) and a 3.11:1
final drive. As expected in a Cadillac, the least of creature
comforts is long ? electronic climate control, Magnasteer
variable-assist and speed-sensitive power rack-and-pinion steering,
power four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, cruise control, power
locks, power sideview mirrors, digital gauge cluster, power
eight-way front seats, rear defroster, electronic leveling control,
intermittent wipers and a self-closing trunk lid. Remote fuel
filler door and trunk lid releases are included, as is a
rear-mounted power antenna. Safety equipment includes the PASS-Key
II security system, ignition anti-lockout, Airbank system - dual
front airbags, anti-lock brakes, side airbags in front,
brake/transmission interlock and child lockouts on rear side
windows. Inside, the car has matching Mulberry leather interior
(code 77). The dual power recliners in front have articulated
headrests and are in excellent overall shape. The matching carpet
and headliner are in similar condition. The four-spoke steering
wheel look ready for a trip while the dashboard and inner door
panels seem showroom new. A column-mounted shift lever and factory
Delco-Bose AM/FM stereo with cassette deck complete the interior.
Competition to this Deville in 1998 included Audi?s A8, BMW?s 740i
and iL, Cadillac?s own Seville SLS, Infiniti?s Q45, Jaguar?s XJ8
and XJ8L, Lexus? LS400, Mercedes-Benz?s S500 and Oldsmobile?s
Aurora. If you?re a fan of luxobarges from almost 25 years ago,
this Cadillac may be to your taste. Stop by MotoeXotica Classic
