A 1953 International L110 Pickup is already a rare sight on the
scene. But what makes this stand out even further from the rest is
the full patina hot rod treatment that puts this V8-powered classic
at the crossroads of vintage and outrageous.
We all love the look of a patina pickup, but since patina takes
time to develop, this one takes extra time to give it flair. It has
all the cool/classic patina hot rod details, like pinstriping, and
a funky garage logo on the doors. But take some extra time to look
over the front end. Black is already part of the patina style, so
the faded black flames are almost camouflaged into the front. It's
a terrific detail that lets you know someone was checking out your
pickup if they pick up on this subtle fire. Deleted bumpers, a
windshield overhang, and a custom steel bed with a jerrycan are all
part of the custom style. And we bet you love the sporty look of
modern 20-inch alloys on the lowered stance. But the most stand-out
part of the whole package may be that this is an International
Harvester truck. We see so few of these because they sold far fewer
than The Big Three, and when they did, these IH machines were often
used up on the farm. So this patina truck also just has an
industrial toughness earned from its family lineage.
The interior makes the right concessions to be inviting. After all,
you may have a touch of rat rod style on the outside, but a
tasteful tan bench seat, matching door panels, and plush carpeting
make it quite inviting. There are even modern upgrades like LED
lighting and an AM/FM stereo with Bluetooth. The glitter steering
wheel and machine-turned dash panel are pure hot rod cool, but as
you look closer, there are also nice driver pieces, like the tilt
column and crisp Stewart Warner readouts.
While IH made robust powerplants, we're glad to see something more
familiar. And because the 350 cubic-inch V8 is a Buick unit instead
of a Chevy, it still gives you some added distinction. The engine
fires up with an eagerness that lets you know this is a true
cruiser. You have a three-speed automatic transmission, power
steering, power brakes, front discs, and an upgraded independent
front end for an attractive driving package.
