This 2004 Ford Mustang Cobra drag car has way too much going on for
it to fit in one listing. It was born a very rare SVT Terminator in
MystiChrome paint. But that's the kind of history that gives it
rarity (1 of 551 coupes.) What makes this one truly unique and
completely awesome is the fully-built fuel-injected turbo V8 block,
complete suspension, race-ready-interior, and all the
competition-worthy equipment - right down to the parachute.
This keeps all the best elements from the stock Cobra, including
the clear headlights with smoked backgrounds, sporty body kit with
rear spoiler, and special SVT heat extractor hood. Plus, the paint
is a true Cobra stand-out. The MystiChrome is a special
color-shifting paint that was only offered in 2004. It's a special
edition Cobra as part of the Mustang's 40th anniversary. Only 515
coupes were made before shutting the books on this chameleon paint.
And while the paint is captivating, it still won't keep people from
noticing all the other upgrades. The decals, window net, and
parachute on the rear are not from the blue oval catalog. And the
Weld Racing forged alloys have a shine just as bright as the paint
to show off this custom Cobra's awesome stance with rear Mickey
Thompson drag tires.
Very little of the stock Mustang remains inside besides power
windows, power locks, and the dash. The rear seat is sacrificed for
the full custom race cage. The front seats are now Kirkley racing
seats with five-point G-Force racing harnesses. There's also an NRG
Racing steering wheel, a Hurst pistol-grip ratchet shifter, and now
the gauges are a Holley Dominator dash display.
While some engine bays are all about show, one look at this, and
everyone knows this one was made to go! It's a hardy 4.6-liter
block that was bored and stroked to 5.4-liters... and then the real
upgrades began. This has been enhanced and fortified with. Gibtech
pistons, Manley rods, a Kellog 3.8-inch crankshaft, Manley 1mm
oversized valves, GT40 rocker arms, Todd Warren cams, new heads,
ARP studs, Bosch 210 injectors, and a Holley Dominator EFI fuel
system. And just to make sure you have the best in power, there's a
full turbocharger system added, too. It includes a Precision 8685
Gen 2 turbo, a custom air-to-water intercooler, Tial wastegates,
and a CO2 system for ideal pressure. This awesome powerhouse also
has the right supporting components, like an Aeromotive brushless
fuel pump, an aluminum radiator with Spal electric fan, a separate
trans cooler, and a fuel cell and Optima marine battery in the
trunk for better weight distribution. The TH400 three-speed with
manual valve body is a stout transmission that feeds into a 1400 hp
rated driveshaft on its way to the 3.55 rear end. As you look
underneath, the full suspension setup has been replaced. It now
includes a UPR tubular A-arm front end, subframe connectors, solid
multi-link rear, Viking adjustable coilovers, and four-wheel disc
brakes.
