For Sale: 1967 Chevrolet Chevelle in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Vehicle Description

1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 2-Door Sport Coupe - Collector grade condition - Granada Gold with Black Vinyl Top - L34 396ci/350hp 4bbl V8 numbers matching - 4 Speed Muncie Transmission - Power Steering and Power Brakes - Rally Wheels with Redline Tires - Professional Restoration and show worthy car Engine Block Casting Code: The engine block casting code is 3904206. This block was used in 396 powered Chevelles from late 1966 to all of 1967 and is the proper casting code for this car. Engine Block Casting Date: Engine block casting date is L96, which is December 9th, 1966. This is about 5-6 weeks before the scheduled build date of the vehicle, which would be considered correct and appropriate for the car. Stamp Pad: The block stamp pad is stamped twice. The first stamp, T1227EF would denote that this engine was assembled in Tonawanda, NY on December 27th, 1966, and the EF suffix would denote this engine as a L34 350hp 396, mated to a 4 speed, correct for a 1967 Chevelle. This stamping would have been applied to the engine in New York before the vehicle was assembled in Baltimore. The second stamping is a partial VIN derivative stamping which matches the VIN of the vehicle. As VIN stamps were not federally mandated until 1968, there are documented examples of 67 SS396 Chevelles without VIN stamps on engines, however in this case the partial VIN does appear and the stamping is authentic and unaltered. Cylinder Head Casting Codes and Casting Dates: Both cylinder heads show 3904390 casting codes, which are correct for 1967 L34 big block heads with 98cc chambers. The driver side head is dated L16 (12/1/1966) and the passenger head is dated L86 (12/8/1966). Both heads are date correct for both the engine assembly date and vehicle production date and 4390 heads were used on 1967 Chevelles until mid-January, when a revised head replaced the 4390 heads. Their appearance here is correct for this car. Gearbox: The Muncie casting code is 3885010, correct for 1966-67 cars. There is a P code stamping of P7T01. This is the assembly date of the gearbox, and it was assembled on December 1st, 1966 and would be considered date-correct for the car. The entire gearbox was checked for a partial VIN derivative stamping and none was observed, but there are other documented examples of Baltimore built 1967 Chevelles with original gearboxes that are not VIN stamped, and this may be the original gearbox for the car. Rear Axle: The differential casting shows a J246 casting date (10/31/1966), and the axle tube is stamped with a KK 1031 B E. KK denotes a 4.10:1 gear, 1031 is the axle assembly date, B denotes 2nd shift and E denotes Posi. Please call if interested or e-mail with specific questions. Thank you for looking.
