Vehicle Description
1966 Ford F100 Pickup
In 1925 the Ford Motor Company introduced the first "pickup" based
on the Model T Runabout. Ford offered the rear "pickup box"
separately at their dealer parts department for $25.00. The box was
then bolted onto the back of the vehicle as an accessory. Since the
box was "picked up" at the parts department by the customer, the
term "pickup" took hold for this style of vehicle. Later the box
was installed at the factory and evolved into today's pickup
trucks.
For consignment, a Ford F-100 pickup truck right out of 1966 that
was fully restored and hot rodded about 8 years ago. Lots of
attention to detail has been paid to this truck, and this final
product shows it with the quality paint and killer 400hp engine.
These trucks seem to be very popular at Classic Auto Mall lately,
so it is suggested you show up sooner rather than later for your
chance to have it permanently in your collection.
Exterior
The beneficiary of a complete restoration about 8 years ago, this
truck is bathed in blue metallic which was applied by the skillful
hands at CRW Autobody in Oakford, PA. Nary a mark is seen in this
finish which is accentuated by newly restored badging, a near
perfect chrome and stainless grille, good chromed brite work, and
all-around hot rodder look right out of SoCal with the right rake
and those big fat meats under the rear...why would you have
anything else there? Leading back from the bright and shiny grille
is a custom cowl induction hood with some flourish pinstriping, the
Ford V8 logo and FORD spelled out between the parking lights. Under
the body matching flip up fiberglass bed cover is a fully gray
felting lined bed. The battery has been relocated here as well as
the fuel tank being moved under the bed from behind the seat.
Adorning each corner are 15" Prime Model 231 wheels that are well
polished and drilled for the go-fast look. A FORD block letter
embossed tailgate rests above a custom rear roll pan sporting a
quad of taillights on either side. Now that's attention to
detail!
Interior
A complete restoration here too, we start with low back bucket
seats with overstuffed bolsters and deep padded inserts utilizing
saddle and beige leather. Tan carpeting covers the floor and is in
beautiful condition. Matching the carpet perfectly are a pair of
tan carpeted floor mats with F100 logoing stitched in. The steel
dash has been sprayed with body matching blue but now has a beige
leather padded topper. A dark blue painted column grows toward the
driver and is topped with a LeCarra rally style steering wheel.
Adding some contrast, a polished aluminum bezel sits in front of
the driver and holds a slew of white face Ford logoed gauges
within. Dash central displays a large Ford blue oval and sweeping
rearward from the dash is a custom full-length console in padded
beige with a brushed aluminum insert holding the Hurst automatic
shifter and toggles for the power windows and locks. The door
panels have also been done to the max with saddle and beige leather
fighting for space along with a custom sculpted armrest. More
saddle for the clean headliner that presents well with the rear of
the cab wrapped in the same material.
Drivetrain
Perhaps one of the cleanest, simplest engine bays seen in a while.
All finished in more dark blue and holding within is a 390ci V8
professionally built by Lorenzo's and has been dynoed to the tune
of 407.7hp. Making those numbers possible is Holley 700cfm
carburetor atop an Edelbrock intake manifold. Chrome dresses up the
engine just perfectly and we note MSD ignition is in charge of
keeping the fire lit. Attached to the back is a C6 3-speed
automatic transmission sending power to a Ford 9" rear axle.
Undercarriage
Like showroom new, with a relocated gas tank to the rear of the
bed, a custom side exit exhaust with headers and Flowmaster
mufflers, and black rustproofing from bow to stern. The stock twin
I-beam, radius arm and coil spring suspension provides the ride up
front and in the back is a ladder bar and coil spring setup with
drum brakes seen all around. A narrowed rear axle and mini tubs
make room for the huge rear tires.
Drive-Ability
My partner in crime and I could not wait to dive into this beauty,
and it did not disappoint. Stylin would best describe the feeling
when inside. She fired right up, and it was off to the test track.
Here she showed us her stuff with snappy acceleration, good
handling, and awesome stopping power. Inside, a fairly quiet ride,
but outside a great exhaust sound resonates through the valley of
our test track. As we slipped off the track and headed back to the
mall, a satisfied look was seen on both our faces as we were
hooked!
A virtually new truck with plenty of upgrades, and meticulous
attention paid to every aspect of this beautiful restored and
rodded example. Hop in, turn the key, and head on down that strip
leaving behind only the cloud of dust...fade in surf music.
