The Super Deluxe name was first released in 1941 which was an
unstable time as the US was preparing for WWII. There was a large
redesign but in 1942 the government halted the production of
civilian cars only 4 months into their run. Interestingly for the
rest of 1942, 1943, 1944, and 1945 some essential military required
vehicles and due to some states using the sale year to identify the
car there are some war time '43, '44, '45 cars that exist.
Production started back up in 1946 and although the cars were
almost identical under the skin the exterior received some
redesigns. The hoods were widened, a new chrome horizontal grill
was used along with new stainless trim accents. Famously the 1946
was used in the Back to the Future series and a neat easter egg is
if you pay attention to the parking lights you will note they
changed between a 1946 and 1947 throughout different scenes.
Speaking of movie cars this clean '46 was supposedly used in the
movies Walk the Line and The Last Ride. The car has undergone a
complete nut & bolt body off restoration and as a result looks like
it just rolled off the factory line. The body is all solid and rust
free. It wears a nice Burgundy paint that has a clean finish. It
has its original chrome bumpers, stainless trim, and chrome grill
which have a great shine. The only mild exterior modification is
the addition of aftermarket side mirrors for better visibility. It
sits on nice painted to match wheels with chrome hubcaps and beauty
rings. The wide white walls look perfect on a car like this and are
brand new.
Under the hood the car has its original 239 Flathead V8 motor.
Everything has been kept very stock looking and painted in Ford
Blue or Black. It has a 3 speed manual transmission that moves
through the gears smoothly. Mechanically the car is very sound and
has been completely gone through.
The interior has been redone in its original looking Gray cloth and
vinyl. It has a split bench up front and full bench in the rear.
The headliner, door panels and all upholstery are in great
condition. The dash is also been painted in Gray and has all of its
original trim, gauges, knobs and switches. The trunk has tons of
storage space and the car comes with a matching spare wheel and 2
additional white wall tires.
This is a very clean example of an all original '46 Super Deluxe.
