Vehicle Description
1956 Chevrolet 3200 Pickup
The Chevrolet Task Force was Chevrolet's successor to the Advance
Design series. The Task Force Series ran from late 1955 (second
series) through 1959. At GMC dealers, it was called the Blue Chip
Series. Designed by Ned Jordan, Chevrolet's Task Force pickups
blurred the line between passenger cars and trucks. They were more
comfortable and roomier than previous Chevy trucks, and they
offered stylish features like a wraparound windshield, hooded
headlights, and an egg-crate grille.
For consignment, a nicely buttoned up 3200 series pickup from
Chevrolet and right out of 1956. A few changes in the powertrain,
some convenience options added to the interior, and a more modern
front suspension. Appearing extra racy with a flip front end, a
customized truck, with presentable paint and the ability to rip it
up a bit and haul some stuff or just some ass!
Exterior
Bright red covers this step side version of this medium duty 3200
series hauler and presents with some inclusions, chips, and
scratches. Single chrome bezel headlights reside under a very
1950's eyebrow at the front of each fender and a fantastic custom
horizontal barred chrome grille floats just above the tucked red
bumper. A bulbous hood sans badges or ornamentation now is attached
to the fenders as a 1 piece forward tilting unit in fiberglass. The
lower sections of each fender were cut and remain in a fixed
position to avoid opening and closing issues. A wonderful wrap
around windshield, and an integral sun visor are seen on the cab
area. Right behind is the step side bed courtesy of a 1993
Chevrolet pickup. Under the black vinyl tonneau cover we note a red
painted bed along with a pieced together rubber liner. The entire
exterior of the bed is razor straight, and gaps are well minded.
The tailgate functions and there is absolutely no rust on the
exterior of this truck. 15-inch 5 spoke aluminum wheels are wrapped
by Futura GLS radials on all 4 corners.
Interior
A complete redux with leather textured ribbed black vinyl for the
lower door panels with red steel uppers and shiny handles. Inside,
late model leather wrapped pillow topped and buttoned charcoal
bucket seats with fold down armrests float in a sea of clean black
carpeting. These seats are now powered, and look just fab,
meanwhile, fronting this is the factory metal dash, painted in body
matching red, with the original fan style instrument cluster along
with added auxiliary gauges and an AM/FM/Cassette player. A late
model GM steering column with an aftermarket Sun tachometer is
seen, and in the center is a B&M shifter. Above is a custom
headliner in ivory with black steel making up its surround.
Drivetrain
A flip of the big hood and fenders and floating in the center of
the patina riddled engine bay is a consigner-stated 350ci V8 with a
4-barrel carburetor on top. A TH400 3-speed automatic transmission
is on back which pushes power rearward to the rear tires via a 10
bolt rear. Power steering is on, and power brakes are also a
welcome upgrade. Headers can be noted too.
Undercarriage
Underneath is painted in black steel for the framing, floors and
suspension, with some areas showing light surface rust. A gen 2
Camaro frame is on the front with independent coil spring
suspension and leaf springs for the rear. Power disc brakes are now
on the front and power drums for the rear. The aforementioned
headers snake their way down to dual exhaust complete with
Flowmaster mufflers.
Drive-Ability
This truck roared to a start and accelerated like it was on fire to
the test track and on it as well. It handles beautifully and comes
to a quick stop. The power seats are a plus, and there are plenty
of gauges to distract your attention on the dash.
A nice build in need of some touches on the fit and finish, but
still a looker and a cooker with a newer engine, power accessories,
and nice exterior paint with a comfy interior. A neat looker and a
hot cooker, we give you the 1956 3200 custom hauler ready to haul
the goods and all the while hauling ass.
