Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is proud to present this
incredibly done 1956 Oldsmobile 88. The Oldsmobile 88 was produced
from 1949-1999 with 88 series being the image leader for
Oldsmobile. The 88 carried a larger high performance V8 and was
considered by some to be the first muscle car. This example in a
vibrant shade of red carries all the iconic 1950's styling cues
such as the thick wide white wall tires and lots of heavy shiny
chrome in the front and in rear with the jet age styled taillights
and the signature 88 with the jet plane integrated into the design.
This 1956 Olds 88 has been updated under the hood with a newer
Oldsmobile 350CID V-8 with an Edelbrock carburetor mated to a
smooth shifting TH400 3-speed automatic transmission and the front
suspension was redone, including all new bushings, so the ride is
tight. The cabin has been completely reupholstered with tan vinyl
with red piping on the seats, door panels and headliner. Matching
red lap belts have been added to the front and rear bench, and
additional equipment includes an ice-cold air conditioner, heater,
AM/FM radio with new Pioneer speakers, a tow hitch and a locking
glovebox. The aftermarket Grant steering wheel sits ahead of a
body-color dashboard housing a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for
battery voltage, coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure
sit under the dash. From the "Jet Era" of automotive styling, the
Oldsmobile 88 has the stylings that made Oldsmobile's an instant
classic that have really become highly sought after in recent years
and this one will be no exception. This is one of the nicer mid
'50s Oldsmobiles we've seen in recent memory!
